JMechanical Assembly Operative

£15.23 – £19.07 per hour + Enhanced Overtime | Days or Late Shifts | Long-Term Opportunity

Smart Solutions are proud to be partnering with a world-leading manufacturer of advanced Defence & Aerospace systems. Due to continued growth, we are looking for experienced and motivated Mechanical Assembly Operatives to join a highly skilled production team at their Centre of Excellence.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a precision engineering environment, contributing to the manufacture and assembly of complex mechanical and electrical vehicle systems used within advanced defence applications.

Mechanical & Electrical Experience Essential

Previous mechanical or electrical experience is essential for this role. We are looking for candidates who have developed strong practical skills through previous work within engineering, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, defence, rail or a similar technical environment.

Previous hands-on assembly experience is highly advantageous, and candidates must be comfortable working with tools, technical documentation and engineering specifications.

Pay & Overtime

  • £15.79 – £19.07 per hour
  • Enhanced overtime available once fully trained
  • Overtime paid at time and a half up to double time, depending on shift and working days
  • Long-term opportunity with the potential for permanent employment

Shift Pattern – Days or Lates

You will work either the day shift or the late shift – there is no weekly rotation.

Day Shift:
Monday to Thursday – 07:00 – 17:00

Late Shift:
Monday to Thursday – 17:00 – 03:00

The Role

As a Mechanical Assembly Operative, you will play an important role in building and assembling complex vehicle systems to exacting engineering and quality standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assembling mechanical and electrical components using engineering drawings, build instructions and technical documentation.
  • Building complex assemblies accurately and efficiently to demanding quality and safety standards.
  • Using a variety of hand tools, power tools and manual torque equipment.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, diagrams and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Carrying out quality inspections and checks throughout the assembly process.
  • Ensuring components are correctly fitted, aligned and torqued to specification.
  • Working to production targets while maintaining exceptional standards of workmanship.
  • Identifying issues and reporting faults or quality concerns promptly.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and helping to improve production efficiency.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Strong mechanical or electrical skills gained in a practical engineering environment.
  • Previous hands-on mechanical or electrical assembly experience.
  • Experience within manufacturing, engineering, automotive, aerospace, defence, rail or a similar industry is highly desirable.
  • The ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings, diagrams and technical instructions.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools and torque equipment.

Pay: £15.79-£19.07 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
