The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced, skilled and self-motivated arable operator to join our small, progressive team on a 1,385-acre (560-hectare) family-run arable and mixed farm near Badminton, on the Gloucestershire/Wiltshire border.

This is a hands-on and varied role suited to an experienced operator looking to take greater responsibility for day-to-day farm operations, with opportunities to develop into a key management position within the business.

What We're Looking For – Essential Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience operating modern arable machinery, including combines, seed drills and GPS guidance systems
  • PA1 & PA2 certificates, with practical commercial spraying experience
  • Telehandler certificate
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Strong practical workshop and machinery maintenance skills, including the ability to diagnose and carry out repairs
  • Experience with crop establishment, spraying and fertiliser application
  • Experience operating a combine harvester, with the ability to provide relief combining during harvest
  • The ability to work independently, take responsibility and use initiative
  • Good organisational skills and strong attention to detail
  • The confidence and communication skills to lead seasonal staff
  • A flexible approach to working hours during busy periods
  • A genuine interest in farming and a desire to contribute to the continued development of the business

Experience with beef cattle and TMR feeding systems would be advantageous, although training can be provided for the right candidate.

The Role

Working as part of a small and friendly team, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the farm. The business spans three sites, and you will be trusted to take responsibility for the management and smooth operation of at least one site at any given time.

The role combines skilled arable operations, machinery management, team leadership and livestock work, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drilling and establishing the farm's crops, including wheat, forage maize and grain maize
  • Operating the 36m sprayer and fertiliser spreader
  • Crop husbandry and general arable operations throughout the growing season
  • Operating and maintaining modern GPS-guided machinery
  • Relief combine driving during harvest
  • Managing the husbandry of a 600-head beef cattle herd, including operating TMR diet feeders
  • Carrying out routine machinery servicing, maintenance and repairs
  • Diagnosing mechanical issues and helping to keep the machinery fleet in excellent working condition
  • Taking day-to-day responsibility for operations across one of the farm's three sites
  • Leading and supporting seasonal staff
  • Working closely with the farm team to ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
  • Supporting the wider farm business and its diversification projects where required

Modern Machinery Fleet

You will have access to a modern and well-maintained machinery fleet, including:

  • New Holland CR9090 combine – 35ft header
  • Case Magnum 380
  • Case Puma 240 & 160
  • Knight 36m sprayer
  • New Holland BB960 baler
  • Horizon DSX 8m drill
  • JCB 538-60 telehandlers

Working Hours & Flexibility

This is a full-time, permanent position. As with any arable farming role, flexibility is essential, and longer hours will be required during peak periods, particularly around drilling, spraying, harvest and other time-critical operations.

Accommodation

A spacious, modern, semi-detached three-bedroom cottage is available in the village of Badminton.

Salary & Benefits

We offer a competitive remuneration package reflecting experience and ability, together with:

  • Pension scheme
  • 28 days' holiday
  • Modern machinery and equipment
  • On-site accommodation
  • A varied role within a progressive, family-run farming business
  • The opportunity to take genuine responsibility and play an important role in the continued development of the farm

How to Apply

If you are an experienced arable operator who enjoys working independently, takes pride in operating and maintaining machinery, and is looking for a role with responsibility, variety and long-term potential, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Please send your CV and covering letter via email by 2nd October 2026.
