Full job description

Main Purpose

Crop work to obtain commercial seeds of Cauliflower or other vegetables and support the Cauliflower Breeding activity on our sites in Kent.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Care of vegetable plants grown in polythene tunnels for plant breeding or seed production

Potting and planting, Irrigation, Staking, de-leafing and curd reduction, Harvest and threshing.

  • Crop protection – spraying
  • Participate in week-end duties rota.
  • Cleaning and packaging seeds.
  • Record keeping as required.
  • Work carefully and to understand fully the need accuracy in all that we do.

Health and Safety

Take reasonable care of his/her health and safety and of those who may be affected by what he/she does or fails to do.

Comply with all relevant requirements of the company health and safety policy.

Comply with all health and safety legislation that affects the role.

Working conditions

Polythene Tunnels or outdoors on 2 sites in East Kent

Person Specification

Essential

  • Ready to do physical work (includes bending or kneeling and lifting)
  • Ready to work in hot or cold conditions in polythene tunnels.
  • Participate week-end duties rota.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Drive manual company car between the sites (UK Driving license)
  • Able to work with complex codes.

Desirable

PA1 and PA6 certificates (spraying)

Rodent control on farms certificate

Tractor driving experience.

Fixed term 18 month contract

Pay: £30,000.00-£31,000.00 per year
