Full job description

Fantastic opportunity for an assistant Herdsperson on our 350 cow organic autumn block calving herd. The herd is on well setup modern dairy unit with a 24/48 parlour with ACR's and cake in the parlour, sand cubicles and tmr fed in the winter and grazed as much as possible between March and November. We have an excellent network of cow tracks and water troughs so there is no yard work to do during the summer months. Our healthy and happy grazing type Friesian cows calve outside in 12 weeks between 10 august and November, this is a busy time however the rest of the year there are no night checks and an easier workload. We are looking for someone to work alongside our experienced Herdsman and the farmer. The work will involve milking, yard work, calf rearing, electric fencing grazing paddocks, and other general herd/dairy tasks. The candidate MUST have experience of milking and other dairy work and be able to work unassisted at times. Also need to work happily alongside other members of staff, be prepared to work hard especially during busy periods, want to settle and live in our area permanently. In return we offer a very competitive salary, regular time off to suit candidate and 28 days holidays.

For accommodation there is a spacious Log cabin on site with 2/3 bedrooms and garden. This can be available rent, council tax, bills FREE for the successful applicant, depending on circumstances and will be reflected in salary. Other property/houses could be an option in the future.

This farm is one of four units owned and managed by the family so there is opportunity for progression within the business for the candidate if proven successful. Also, there are options for relief work or calf feeding for a partner if required.
