Full job description

This is a broad, hands-on field role for an engineer who is genuinely comfortable turning their hand to almost anything. One day you might be terminating and testing a cabling run, the next you could be swapping a failed switch, building and imaging a batch of laptops, or supporting a retailer to get their tills back online before they open!

You will be the face of Cameo on our partners' customer sites — working autonomously, making sound decisions on the spot, and making sure every visit ends with the job done and the customer confident it was done properly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver on-site installation, maintenance, break/fix and IMAC support across our full product portfolio
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software faults on desktops, laptops, servers, printers and peripherals
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot network infrastructure — switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, IP addressing, DHCP and basic routing
  • Install, commission and support EPOS estates — tills, terminals, printers, scanners, cash drawers, chip and PIN devices and back-office systems
  • Build, image, configure and deploy hardware to customer specification, both on site and at our facilities
  • Support planned project work, rollouts, refreshes and site migrations alongside day-to-day reactive support
  • Own every job through to resolution, keeping the service desk and the customer updated at each stage
  • Work to agreed SLAs and KPIs, completing accurate paperwork, call notes and asset records
  • Manage your van stock, parts and returns, and keep test equipment and tooling in good order
  • Participate in the 24/7 out-of-hours call-out rota
  • Build professional working relationships with colleagues, partners and suppliers, and keep your technical knowledge current

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Demonstrable experience in a field-based IT support or engineering role
  • Solid all-round hardware and software fault-finding across Windows desktops, laptops and servers
  • Working knowledge of IP networking — IP addressing, subnetting, DHCP, DNS, switching and basic routing
  • Practical cabling experience: Cat5e/Cat6 termination, patching, Fluke/certification testing and fault tracing beneficial.
  • Experience installing or supporting EPOS or similar customer-facing point-of-sale hardware
  • Confident building, imaging and configuring end-user devices
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and the confidence to deal with customers directly on site
  • Self-motivated, solution-focused and comfortable working alone with minimal supervision
  • Well organised, with the discipline to keep records accurate and calls updated
  • Full, clean UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel across your patch, work overtime and cover occasional weekends and overnight stays

Desirable

  • Vendor or industry certifications — CompTIA A+ / Network+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft, or manufacturer-specific accreditations
  • Experience with tier-one server and storage platforms (HPE, Dell, Lenovo, IBM, Cisco, NetApp)
  • Fibre termination, splicing and OTDR testing
  • Exposure to retail, hospitality or multi-site enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with UPS installation and maintenance
  • ECS/CSCS card, IPAF or PASMA
  • Willingness to undergo DBS or BPSS clearance where customer sites require it

Pay: £28,000.00-£35,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company events
  • Company pension
  • Life insurance
  • Private medical insurance
