Introduction

An unexpected opportunity has arisen at our Larbert Branch. We are looking for someone with a 'can do' attitude and strong work ethic who is committed to a long term career in the weighing industry. Experience as a Calibration Technician or Field Service Engineer would be and advantage, but full training will be given.

D Brash & Sons are one of the UK's leading independent providers of calibration, maintenance, repair, and distribution of weighing equipment. We are UKAS accredited for on-site calibration and ISO9001 accredited for service and repair, offering expert impartial advice and competitive prices.

The company now operates from nine branches across the UK and are able to offer our specialist services at any location.

Larbert Branch specialise in weighbridges, cattle scales, and heavy industrial weighing equipment.

Job purpose

Provide a first-class weighing equipment repair, maintenance, and calibration service to customers and support Field Service Engineer colleagues in carrying out their duties.

Scope

You are expected to work with a variety of weighing equipment. This will predominantly be industrial weighing devices, vessel weighing systems and weighbridges, however, smaller weighing equipment e.g. laboratory balances may also be included in your duties.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Carry out calibration of weighing equipment to industry accreditation standards and customer expectations.

2. Carry out maintenance of weighing equipment and accurately inform customers when repair is required.

3. Carry out repair of weighing equipment to appropriate standards.

4. Complete all required paperwork related to calibration of weighing equipment and submit on time.

5. Physically moving test weights in 20kg denominations to complete calibration work may be required.

6. Frequently travel to customer sites to carry out calibration work or other tasks, as necessary.

7. Occasional overnight stays may be required.

8. Provide excellent customer service in the field and adhere to all Health and Safety procedures as required.

9. Participate fully as a member of the D Brash and Sons team, providing cross-cover and support as required to ensure a network of service is delivered across the UK.

10. Participate in appropriate training activities to ensure that knowledge of health and safety, equipment and procedures remains current.

11. Additional reasonable duties may be requested from time to time by a manager.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • Experience in electrical fault finding and maintenance of machinery
  • Ability to work well with a wide range of external customers and colleagues, building good working relationships within short timescales
  • Excellent numeracy skills
  • Ability to travel to customer sites and a full valid UK Driving Licence
  • Physical ability to frequently and repetitively lift single weights up to 20kg
  • IT literate with the ability to complete paperwork correctly first time
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in working practices
  • Problem solving and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and deliver results without supervision

Desirable:

  • Electronics or electro-mechanical qualification, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in the weighing industry
  • Experience in calibration protocols
  • Experience in computer programming
