Full job description

Front of House / Kitchen Assistant – Film & TV Location Catering

Company: Moonshine Location Catering

Location: Based in Newport, South Wales (Nationwide Travel Required)

Job Type: Freelance / Self-employed

Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience) + overnight accommodation provided when working away

About Us

Moonshine Location Catering is a premier catering company serving the fast-paced UK film and TV industry. While our roots and production kitchen are based in Newport, South Wales, our work takes us wherever the cameras are rolling—working nationwide on various locations, studio lots, and unit bases.

We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, nutritious, and creative menus to hard-working casts and crews, keeping production moving one plate at a time. We are looking for energetic, adaptable, and friendly individuals to join our team and help us deliver exceptional service on the road.

The Role

As a Front of House / Kitchen Assistant, you will be the face of Moonshine on location, ensuring the crew is fueled, happy, and looked after. This is a dual role where no two days are the same—you will split your time between welcoming cast and crew at the service counter and supporting our chefs in the kitchen.

Because the film industry moves fast, we need team players who thrive in a dynamic environment, love traveling, and don't mind early mornings or varied hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Front of House Excellence: Set up, maintain, and break down the dining and service areas on location. Serve meals to cast and crew with a warm, professional, and friendly attitude.
  • Kitchen Support: Assist the chefs with basic food preparation (chopping vegetables, preparing salads, plating desserts, and prepping snacks).
  • Stock & Station Management: Keep the tea/coffee stations, snack bars, and condiments fully stocked and immaculately clean throughout the day.
  • Hygiene & Maintenance: Maintain high standards of cleanliness across both the kitchen and service areas, including washing up, operating dishwashers, and ensuring strict adherence to food safety protocols.
  • On-Location Adaptability: Help load, unload, and set up our mobile catering units as we move between different filming locations.

About You

  • Experience: Previous experience in hospitality, catering, front-of-house, or kitchen porter roles is highly desirable, but a great attitude is essential.
  • Adaptable & Resilient: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with early call times and changing schedules.
  • Team Player: A positive, "can-do" attitude with the ability to take direction and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Customer-Focused: Excellent communication skills and a welcoming personality—you'll be interacting with everyone from background extras to directors.
  • Logistics: Must be willing and able to travel nationwide and stay overnight on location (accommodation provided). A clean driver’s license and your own transport to get to our Newport base is a major plus.

What We Offer

  • Competitive rates of pay based on experience.
  • All overnight accommodation provided and paid for when working away.
  • The unique opportunity to work behind the scenes in the exciting UK film and television industry.
  • A fun, supportive, and hard-working team culture.

Pay: £14.00-£17.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Company events
  • Discounted or free food
  • Flexible schedule
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking

Licence/Certification:

  • Driving Licence (required)

Work Location: On the road
