Full job description

Trainee Financial Adviser

Leeds
Up to £40,000

NJR Recruitment is delighted to be working with a highly regarded Chartered Financial Planning firm in Leeds to recruit a Trainee Financial Adviser to join its growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Diploma-qualified financial services professional who is looking to take the next step in their career and progress into a client-facing advisory role.

The successful candidate will benefit from a structured transition into financial advice, spending the first 6–12 months developing their knowledge of the firm's clients, systems and processes while gaining valuable experience within a paraplanning capacity. Once fully established, you will be given responsibility for managing a portfolio of approximately 150 clients, providing ongoing financial advice and building long-term relationships.

This role would suit an experienced Paraplanner or a financial planning professional with a strong technical background who is ready to progress into an advisory position within a supportive, quality-focused environment.

The Role

Initially, you will work closely with the existing advisory and paraplanning teams to develop a thorough understanding of the business, its clients and its approach to financial planning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Financial Advisers with the preparation of suitability reports and client recommendations.
  • Undertaking research into pensions, investments and wider financial planning solutions.
  • Developing a detailed understanding of client circumstances, objectives and existing financial arrangements.
  • Attending client meetings where appropriate to gain exposure to the advice process and build client relationships.
  • Learning the firm's systems, processes and approach to delivering high-quality financial planning.
  • Supporting the preparation of annual reviews and ongoing client servicing requirements.
  • Developing the technical knowledge, confidence and communication skills required to provide regulated financial advice.

Over the first 6–12 months, you will gradually transition from paraplanning into an advisory role, with the support and guidance needed to make that move successfully.

Progression into Financial Advice

Once you have developed a strong understanding of the business and are ready to take the next step, you will be given responsibility for a portfolio of approximately 150 clients.

You will have the opportunity to build lasting client relationships, deliver ongoing financial advice and become an integral part of a Chartered Financial Planning practice that places quality, trust and long-term relationships at the heart of its service.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally have:

  • The Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.
  • Strong paraplanning experience, or a similar technical background within financial planning.
  • A sound understanding of pensions, investments and the wider financial planning process.
  • Experience preparing suitability reports, undertaking technical research and supporting client recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with a genuine interest in working directly with clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering suitable, high-quality client outcomes.
  • The ambition and motivation to develop into a fully-fledged Financial Adviser.
  • A professional, client-focused approach and a desire to build a long-term career within financial planning.

Why Apply?

  • Join a highly regarded Chartered Financial Planning practice.
  • Follow a structured pathway from paraplanning into financial advice.
  • Spend 6–12 months learning the business, its clients and its processes before transitioning into advice.
  • Take on a portfolio of approximately 150 clients as you progress into the advisory role.
  • Build on your existing technical knowledge while developing your client-facing skills.
  • Establish a long-term career within a professional, quality-driven financial planning environment
  • Excellent benefits package
  • Hybrid working
