Who we are

William James is an independent, family-run wealth management firm based in Southampton. We look after business owners, founders and people approaching retirement across Hampshire, helping with pensions, investments, cash savings, cash flow, inheritance tax planning and the cost of later-life care.

We're independent, with access to 600+ providers. Every client has one named adviser and two reviews a year. We never hold client money, and we never do mortgages, which is why mortgage brokers trust us with their clients.

Our big idea is simple. Wealth grows in rings. One a year, decision by decision. It's how we think about our clients, and it's how we think about our people.

Why now

Founded by Chris Schutrups, a multi-award-winning entrepreneur, William James is run like a business: the systems and technology of a national firm, with the feel of a local one. Leads come to you through our broker partners, seminars, events and our own marketing, so you spend your time advising.

We're adding advisers through 2027. The people who join now won't just fill a seat. They'll help shape how William James advises, grows and is handed on.

What you'll do

• Run free first conversations with warm introductions from our broker partners, seminars and events
• Own your client bank end to end: fact find, recommendation, implementation and ongoing reviews
• Deliver two reviews a year for every client, run like a board meeting
• Advise on pensions, investments, cash savings, cash flow, inheritance tax planning and care fee funding
• Present at seminars and events across Hampshire
• Help shape our advice process as we grow from a small team to a firm

Who you are

• Level 4 Diploma and Competent Adviser Status, with a clean regulatory record
• A track record of good client outcomes and relationships that last
• Equally at ease with a founder planning an exit and a couple planning retirement
• Disciplined with follow-up and CRM. We live in Pipedrive
• Chartered, or working towards it, is a bonus
• Based in or around Hampshire, with a full UK driving licence

How you're rewarded

• £55,000 base.
• £80k to £95k on target.

Commission is earned on the business you write, and it's uncapped. But it's never just about volume. We reward performance alongside customer experience and genuine client outcomes, because we're building for longevity. Advisers who create lasting value for their clients create value for the firm and its shareholders in turn.

• £55,000 base salary
• Realistic on-target earnings of £80,000 to £95,000, with uncapped commission
• A steady flow of qualified introductions, so you advise rather than prospect
• Xplan, Pipedrive, integrated phones and automation that take the admin off your plate
• Funded CPD and support towards Chartered status
• Workplace pension, laptop, phone and hybrid wo

Where you'll work

Our Southampton office at least two days a week, then home-based or out with clients. Our clients are local, so you'll be based in or around Hampshire. Remote roles are looked at case by case
