Vacancy: ​ SHEQ Manager

Role: F/T permanent

Hours: 37.5 per week - Monday to Friday – 9am to 5pm with flexibility

Salary: £35,000p.a. + Dependent upon Experience

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with Safety, Health, Environmental and quality experience. You will work closely with the Chief Technical Officer as well as other members of the Senior Leadership Team to promote, implement and oversee the SHEQ requirements and responsibilities of the Company.

Key tasks:

  • To work with Chief Officers to oversee the company’s SHEQ policies, procedures and program to ensure the company’s compliance with ISO standards, ESG targets and objectives, UNGC membership, Eco Vadis Platinum standards and all other legal, regulatory and internal requirements.
  • To build a good knowledge of regulations by actively reviewing the published guidelines, documenting our compliance, implementing any necessary changes and communicate any legislation changes as needed. Ensuring communication with official and professional bodies where needed.
  • Maintain company wide Health and Safety registers, ensuing they are kept up to date with current legislation.
  • Manage and maintain accident record books, ensuring that incidents and concerns are recorded appropriately with any investigations being completed to a good standard and within the appropriate time scales.
  • To Conduct regular SHEQ audits and inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, and assist Managers in writing Risk Assessments and the implementation of controls to minimize risks and improve SHEQ performance.
  • Ensure risk assessments are sufficient and up to date, covering general work-related hazards and fire, as well as DSEAR and chemicals.
  • To use the company’s T100 system to assign training and procedures to new and existing employees. To monitor the completion of this training, providing feedback to management.
  • To provide guidance, support and information to all employees and managers on SHEQ related matters, through training, toolbox talks and department or company-wide awareness programmes.
  • To be responsible for managing and maintaining the company Quality Management System, ensuring procedures are up to date and audits are being performed. To record and manage company non-conformances, ensuring that managers thoroughly investigate and follow the CAPA process, reporting on a monthly basis to the Chief Officers.
  • To act as the company lead representative during audits of the site/ building operations by external parties.
  • To coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders to manage and respond to SHEQ related incidents and emergencies.
  • To work with the Chief Officer Team and Managers to help to develop and maintain the company’s emergency response and business continuity plans.
  • To attend regular Health and Safety meetings to inform the Chief Officers of ongoing issues and provide a monthly report, adhering to GRI standards.
  • Adhere to the Company’s management System (ISO9001) which contains all departmental procedures, SOP’s and all other standard company rules and regulations, including the Environmental Policy. Ensuring all activities in departments are carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety Policy.
  • To assist the Leadership team in creating and improving a positive Health and Safety culture.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a Chemistry field.
  • Already holds or is willing to obtain NEBOSH national general certificate within first 12 month of commencing the role.
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessments and COSHH.
  • Understanding of and a strong adherence to safe working practices.
  • Displays good forward thinking, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft 365, MS Teams and ideally T100 and SAP.
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn new skills.

Special Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Experience of working in a chemical production/ storage facility.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Displays good forward thinking, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
