About the Role

Are you looking to accelerate your career in construction health and safety? We are seeking a motivated Junior / Health & Safety Advisor to support the delivery of health and safety across our construction sites and office operations.

This is a fantastic development opportunity for someone with a relevant qualification or practical experience who wants to grow within a supportive environment. You will carry out independent site visits while receiving direct guidance, mentorship, and technical support from our Health & Safety Manager. As your knowledge, experience, and competence grow, there is a clear pathway to transition into a broader, full Health & Safety Advisor role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Inspections & Safety Compliance:
  • Carry out routine health and safety inspections and visits at allocated construction sites using company procedures and checklists.
  • Monitor working conditions, including housekeeping, access routes, welfare facilities, PPE, work at height, excavations, plant movements, and fire precautions.
  • Verify that risk assessments and method assessments are available, communicated, and properly followed.
  • Discuss findings with Site Managers, identify required improvements, and agree on corrective actions.
  • Prepare clear inspection reports with photographs and action timescales, following up to obtain evidence of completion.
  • Documentation & Management Systems:
  • Assist in preparing, reviewing, and updating risk assessments, method statements, construction phase plans, site rules, and induction materials.
  • Check subcontractor documentation for completeness and refer technical concerns to the Health & Safety Manager.
  • Maintain inspection records, action trackers, training registers, and document control systems.
  • Support internal audits and the upkeep of the company’s health and safety management system.
  • Training & Communication:
  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and routine safety briefings using approved company materials.
  • Identify site training needs, monitor qualification expiry dates, and highlight renewal requirements.
  • Encourage the reporting of hazards, near misses, and improvement suggestions.
  • Incident Investigation:
  • Assist with recording accidents, incidents, and near misses accurately and promptly.
  • Gather photographs, witness information, and documents to support investigations and communicate lessons learned.

  • A relevant introductory health and safety qualification, current study towards a recognised qualification, or suitable practical experience.
  • A basic understanding of construction hazards and safe working practices.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, paired with strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • A willingness to undergo further training, travel regularly between sites, and a full UK driving licence (where required for travel).

  • A NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in construction, site supervision, site administration, or health and safety.
  • Prior experience completing inspections, reviewing safety documentation, or delivering inductions and toolbox talks.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body, such as IOSH.
  • Note: Candidates with more advanced qualifications and experience may be considered for a broader Advisor remit right from the start.

Training & Development

We are fully invested in your professional growth. You will receive a comprehensive initial induction, site familiarisation, and specialized training in inspection and reporting procedures, backed by ongoing support from our Health & Safety Manager.
