Full job description

Purpose of the role

This is the first appointment in our new Southeast team. The postholder will report directly to the directors, who will be involved in their technical and leadership development, and will help establish the team as expansion continues.

We plan to grow the team over the next 18 months to 2 years. The postholder will be well placed to take on a lead role to shape the team as it grows, with promotion based on merit rather than length of service.

Key responsibilities

1. Carry out fire risk assessments across residential and commercial premises, within your agreed competence level.

2. Complete assessments on the company's bespoke tablet system to the required standard.

3. Take ownership of project portfolios alongside the lead validator, including client delivery and quality.

4. Support the validation of FRAs completed by colleagues as your experience develops.

5. Help train and develop new assessors as they join the South East team.

6. Work with the directors to establish the South East team's standards and ways of working.

7. Contribute ideas to the ongoing development of the company's software, including live action tracking and data analytics.

8. Keep your technical knowledge current through monthly training days and funded professional development.

9. Travel across the region (initially London and Brighton, becoming smaller and closer to home as the team expands), with occasional overnight stays.

How the work is organised

  • Admin: all bookings, scheduling and admin are handled by the central team.
  • Workload: typically one small FRA in the morning and one in the afternoon. Larger premises are given more time, with admin days where needed.
  • Working day: once your FRAs are completed to the required standard, the rest of the day is your own.
  • Competence: a competence-based matrix means you are only assigned FRAs you are confident to carry out.
  • Support: direct contact with the validation team, and shadow visits on complex jobs to help develop your knowledge.
  • Team: the South East team will work mainly virtually, with regular contact with head office and the directors. The intention is for training and development to take place in London.
