Full job description

Aim high. Go beyond.

At Open Cosmos, we’re solving some of the world’s biggest challenges from space. We enable businesses, governments, and researchers to access critical information from satellites — faster and more easily than ever before.

Ready to take on the challenge?

Our COO organisation is the engine behind Open Cosmos’ operations. From mission delivery to supply chain and product assurance, this team ensures every satellite mission runs smoothly and reliably.

As Facilities Manager, you’ll play a key role in building and running the environments that make those missions possible.

Based at our Harwell Campus site, you will ensure the facility operates safely, efficiently, and at the standards required for satellite manufacturing and cleanroom operations. You will also provide oversight of facilities across all Open Cosmos sites and lead the Office Management team globally, ensuring consistent workplace standards and operational support as the company scales.

Working closely with the COO, People Team, and Engineering teams, you’ll ensure our facilities are secure, compliant, and ready to support the next generation of missions.

What you’ll be doing?

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of building systems including electrical, HVAC, fire safety, compressed air, and utilities

  • Lead facilities operations at Harwell while providing oversight and support for other Open Cosmos sites globally

  • Manage fit-out and commissioning projects, including cleanrooms, labs, and office areas

  • Take ownership of site security, managing external providers, access control, CCTV, and alarm systems

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, leading audits, inspections, and incident response

  • Manage contractors, suppliers, and service providers, ensuring safe and high-quality delivery

  • Lead and coordinate the Office Management team across all sites, ensuring consistent workplace standards

  • Manage facilities budgets, maintenance schedules, and service contracts

  • Apply your hands-on technical expertise to maintain critical infrastructure and support operations when needed

What You’ll bring

  • Proven facilities management experience in a technical, manufacturing, aerospace, or similar environment

  • Electrical qualification with strong understanding of building systems

  • Experience delivering fit-out or refurbishment projects from design through commissioning

  • Knowledge of cleanroom environments, ESD protection, and contamination control

  • Strong understanding of HSE compliance and contractor management

  • Excellent organisational and stakeholder management skills

  • A hands-on, pragmatic approach and strong ownership mindset in a fast-growing business

This role will be based onsite at our premises in Harwell, Oxfordshire.

To apply, you must have the legal right to work in this location.

Why Open Cosmos?

  • Work at the cutting edge of space technology with customers around the globe.

  • A mission-driven company making space accessible to help solve real-world challenges.

  • A diverse, ambitious, and supportive team.
