We are looking for a Principal Fire Safety Consultant to join our Safety Consultancy team in a senior role. This is an opportunity to influence national client partnerships, shape fire safety services, and maintain the high technical standards our clients rely on. You will act as a trusted advisor, subject matter expert, and mentor, helping to develop both our services and our people.

Principal Fire Safety Consultant

Job Purpose

The Principal Fire Safety Consultant is responsible for delivering high-quality fire safety consultancy services, providing actionable insights and practical solutions for clients. This includes supporting compliance, operational excellence, and Know Your Customer (KYC) activities such as Fire Risk Assessments, and supporting to develop and refine fire safety offerings. The role also involves providing expert advice on fire safety matters raised through the Safety Advice Line, meetings, and project work, ensuring alignment with Shield Safety’s products and standards.

Key Responsibilities

The role has responsibility for the following:

Client Engagement & Solutions

· Build trusted, long-term relationships with clients by understanding their needs, identifying areas of concern, and delivering clear, concise, and practical advice. Provide proactive and reactive consultancy, including technical input to pre-sales, onboarding, and ongoing support. Ensure solutions are aligned with Shield Safety’s product suite and commercial objectives.

Product & Service Development

· Collaborate with internal stakeholders to shape, launch, and continuously improve fire safety products and services. Identify opportunities for growth and enhancement of the fire safety function, contributing strategic recommendations and supporting the commerciality of offerings.

Technical Expertise & Support

· Act as a subject matter expert for fire safety, providing technical advice via the Safety Advice Line, and in-person meetings. Guide clients through onboarding, system use, and service expectations. Support internal investigations into fire safety incidents, assess compliance, and analyse relevant documentation.

Compliance

· Review client management systems and documentation for fire safety compliance. Liaise with regulators and Primary Authority partners to ensure effective communication and regulatory alignment.

Leadership, Training & Culture

· Foster a culture aligned with company values, providing leadership and support within the Safety Consultancy department. Support the induction, onboarding, and ongoing development of new Fire Risk Assessors and team members, including mentoring, personal development plans, and continuing professional development content. Participate in team-building, strategy setting, and training activities.

Sales & Account Management Support

· Work closely with Sales and Account Management teams to provide product knowledge, support sales leads, and attend client meetings as needed. Identify and communicate trends and opportunities for service expansion.

Performance Management

· Prioritise tasks effectively, working independently and within a team to meet personal and departmental KPIs and performance targets. Support the response to fire safety-related complaints, ensuring comprehensive investigation and resolution.

Quality Assurance

· Assist Fire Quality Assurance/Validation with formal responses to appeals and ensure KPIs are met.

Requirements

  • Level 5 Diploma in Fire Safety
  • Proven experience in a management or leadership role in Fire Safety Consultancy
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • IT literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office 365
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to travel to client sites as needed
