BUSINESS FUNCTION: Engineering
GRADE: Level 6 Fleet
SALARY: £57,644 per annum
ROLE TYPE: On Site
HOURS: 35 per week
Do you have what it takes to lead and support transformational infrastructure projects? Northern is seeking an experienced Engineering Facilities Team Leader to spearhead the mobilisation, testing, and commissioning of new engineering facilities as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU).
In this pivotal role, you will ensure our depots, plant equipment and infrastructure are safe, compliant, and operationally ready. You will lead the development of maintenance schedules and examinations, drive high standards, and manage the team to deliver exceptional results.
Can you see yourself:
- Leading Mobilisation Projects: Ensuring the smooth handover of new facilities from Network Rail to Northern Trains.
- Developing Maintenance Schedules: Implementing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) for buildings, infrastructure, and plant equipment.
- Setting Operational Standards: Managing the development and deployment of operational standards, processes, and procedures for fixed assets and buildings.
- Driving Compliance: Ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards including ISO9001, ISO14001, IOSH18001, and ISO45001.
- Collaborating with Contractors: Acting as a key interface for third-party contractors, overseeing KPIs and service delivery.
- Inspiring Team Performance: Taking full responsibility for Level 5 Facilities Plant Team Member performance, development, and competency reviews.
- Investigating and Auditing: Leading technical investigations, audits, and quality checks across depots and infrastructure.
- Reporting with Precision: Maintaining accurate records, documentation, and reporting to senior management.
- Managing Safety Processes: Overseeing site safety processes, including risk escalation, COSHH compliance, and technical problem resolution.
Are You?
- A Natural Leader: Ready to take ownership of this critical role, managing teams effectively, ensuring competency, performance and development. Promote a proactive approach to health, wellbeing, environmental and pollution prevention.
- Mechanically and Electrically Skilled: With strong experience and capable of working on complex infrastructure and a suitable engineering qualifications with proven industry experience.
- Process-Oriented: Experienced in implementing and maintaining asset management systems and processes. As a Safety Critical Role, you’ll ensure compliance with all SHEC, SMOW, QMSP policies and procedures.
- Qualified or Ready to Qualify: In IOSH, NEBOSH, Legionella Responsible Person, Fire Manager, Auditor/Assessor qualifications, and IEMA Environmental Management.
- Technically Knowledgeable: Able to read and understand technical schematics, COSHH regulations, and Risk Assessments. Strong understanding of SHEC (Safety, Health, Environment, Compliance) systems.
- Organised and Analytical: With excellent problem-solving, planning, and organisational skills.
- Collaborative: Skilled at liaising with contractors and monitoring KPIs to ensure high service delivery.
- A Strong Communicator: Possessing excellent interpersonal, communication, and IT skills.
- Safety Champion? Can you effectively escalate risks, take accountability for actions, challenge unsafe behaviour, and deliver to high safety standards, whilst championing safety improvements across the team.
Please note this role is safety critical and is subject to Rail Safety & Standards Board (RSSB) regulations. You MUST meet the safety critical criteria for this position, or your application will be automatically rejected.
