As a Health and Safety Officer within SHEQ Department at PWR, you will be responsible for implementing and managing health and safety initiatives at our manufacturing sites in Europe. Your role is pivotal in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining a safe work environment for all employees.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Ensure compliance with (and contribute to) all WHS policies and procedures as outlined in the HR Manual and Employment Policy Guide.
• Participate and contribute in all WHS toolbox talks, newsletter, other media as required
• Participate in department WHS, Fire and Evacuation and Emergency training.
• Always demonstrate a high degree of safety leadership and awareness.

Standards & Legislation: Ensure compliance to relevant ISO standards and latest legislation, regulatory standards as applicable to PWR.

Promote Safety Culture: Lead initiatives to cultivate a positive safety culture across the site, ensuring employees, contractors and visitors are engaged and committed to safe practices.

Support and administration of our digital WHS management system: ensuring WHS records, registers and documentation are accurate, current and audit ready.

Coordinate WHS training: Participate in inductions, maintain high-risk work licence records, competency management and emergency preparedness activities. Maintain training records for all European employees.

Operational WHS documentation: Assist with the development, review and maintenance of site safety documentation, (e.g. work instructions, SWMS, JSAs, VOCs, and forms and checklists).

WHS training materials and learning resources: Assist with the preparation, review and editing of and learning resources.

Return-to-work processes and rehabilitation: In conjunction with HR, assist with RTW coordination enabling the return to work of workers with occupational health requirements.

WHS asset registers: Assist with the update with key information which includes high-risk plant and equipment

Workplace Inspections & Risk Assessments: Perform regular site inspections to identify safety hazards, ensuring that safety standards and regulations are being met.

Incident Investigations: Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

Employee Safety Concerns: Address safety concerns raised by employees, ensuring prompt and effective resolution, and escalate when necessary.

Emergency Procedures Coordination: Manage and coordinate emergency procedures, including the deployment of fire wardens and first aid officers, ensuring readiness in case of emergencies.

Management Communication: Provide guidance to Health Safety Committee and support ongoing development. Regular update management on the status of health and safety programs, support the delivery and management of the safety management system.

PPE Monitoring: Oversee the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on-site and encourage adherence to safety protocols.

Health & Wellbeing: Engagement with third party to assist with arrangements for health promotions, random drug and alcohol testing, pre-employment medical reviews, and periodic health assessments.

Stakeholder Relationships: Chair and document local H&S meetings, support global SHEQ discussions

Travel: Able to fly to Europe for multi-day site visits on occasion.

Role Requirements

Ability to Conduct Inspections: Walk, stand, and move around the manufacturing site to conduct safety inspections, ensuring all areas and equipment are assessed for safety compliance.

Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting and carrying of safety equipment, materials, and supplies (up to 10-15 kg).

PPE: correct application of personal protective equipment

Emergency Response: Ability to respond to emergency situations, including moving quickly in the event of a fire, evacuation, or medical emergency.

Climbing and Stooping: Ability to climb ladders or stairs and stoop to inspect areas or equipment at lower levels.

Standing for Extended Periods: Ability to stand for extended periods during site walkthroughs or safety training sessions.
