Simply Certification is recruiting for two separate Retrofit and Renewables Technical Inspector vacancies. We do not expect one candidate to hold all the qualifications listed below.
We are looking for:
- Electrical and Renewable Technologies Inspector - A qualified electrician holding relevant renewable technology qualifications, including Solar PV and Battery Storage
- Gas and Renewable Heating Inspector - A suitably qualified gas engineer with qualifications and practical experience in renewable heating technologies, including Air Source Heat Pumps and Ground Source Heat Pumps.
- Experience with other renewable heating technologies would be advantageous. These are field-based inspection and assessment roles, rather than installation positions.
Salary and benefits
- £40,000–£45,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience
- £5,000 annual car allowance
- 22p per business mile
Location and travel
Applicants should be based in the North West of England. However, the role involves extensive travel throughout the UK. You will spend most of your working time on the road and will regularly be required to stay away from home overnight.
Please only apply if you are comfortable with frequent UK travel, overnight stays and working independently at different customer and installation sites. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Job Overview
The role of the Retrofit and Renewables Technical Inspector is to support the certification process by completing On-Site Technical Inspections. These inspections are carried out on live installations at our client’s site against the relevant standards, such as PAS 2030, MCS and Flexi-Orb.
The Inspectors role is to use their knowledge, experience and expertise in their chosen field, to report on the work being carried out, recording observations of good practice, areas of improvement or non-conformities against the standard being assessed.
A more experienced auditor may be able to complete Head Office Assessments and support the recruitment of other Technical Inspectors as detailed below.
Technical Inspectors must be competent in 1 or more of the following areas:
- Gas and Renewables
- or
- Elextric and Reneables
- Insulation would be beneficial if also have experience in this area in additon to one or more of the above
Location
This role is based on the road, UK wide.
Hours of work
Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours plus travel.
Travel Requirements
Travel will be required throughout the UK.
The Role
The Retrofit and Renewables Technical Inspector is responsible for:
- Assessing businesses against the relevant standards
- Identifying areas of good practice, opportunities for improvement and non-conformance by reviewing:
- Documentation
- Installations
- Carrying out Technical Inspections onsite in line with the standard that is being assessed against
- Write up detailed reports that are easy to understand
- Confirm that completed non-conformances meet the audit criteria
- Answer client enquiries
- To offer guidance to multiple businesses across the industry within UKAS guidelines
Other Responsibilities May Include
- Carrying out Head Office Assessments (looking at our clients QMS (Quality Management System)
- Carrying out technical reviews of other Technical Inspectors reports
- Interviewing other Technical Inspectors applying for this role
- Providing training on our audit reporting system to other Technical Inspectors
- Conducting observations and supporting newly appointed Technical Inspectors in the same role
Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential
To demonstrate competence, individuals must show:
- Knowledge and Understanding
- A solid understanding of their technical area, supported by formal qualifications and/or practical experience.
- Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- The ability to demonstrate technical competence equivalent to the level required under the scheme, evidenced through personal certification and experience.
- Evidence can include formal qualifications, training, or demonstrable experience.
- Acceptable qualifications and experience may include, but are not limited to:
- Level 2/3 NVQ in Insulation & Building Treatments (with the relevant pathway)
- Gas qualifications
- Electrical qualifications
- Renewable technology qualifications
- Building Information Modelling (BIM) experience
- Experience in a quality role (e.g., Technical Monitoring, Internal or External Auditing, Consultancy)

- Health and Safety Certificates Relevant to Each Measure (Manual Handling, Confined Spaces, Fire Awareness, Working at Heights, Gas Safe, Asbestos Awareness)
- A1 Assessor
- Two years’ experience within Industry
- Two years’ experience inspecting, assessing or technical monitoring
- Relevant experience of installation of insulation, gas, electric or renewables
- Experience of carrying out full domestic properties’ assessments
- Experience in developing and verifying risk assessments and method statements
- Experience in writing and understanding installation documentation
