Job Description

As a Health and Safety Advisor you will drive the effective delivery of Health and Safety across McLaren Racing’s operational environments. Empowered to stop any unsafe activity at any time, you will combine hands-on operational engagement with ownership of key safety processes to ensure the consistent and practical application of standards.

The role focuses on influencing frontline behaviours, strengthening risk controls, and embedding a proactive safety culture across manufacturing, engineering, and support functions while supporting compliance with UK legislation, internal policies, and recognised management systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive compliance with Health & Safety policy and legal requirements across assigned operational areas.
  • Lead workplace inspections, audits and Safety Observation Tours (SOTs), ensuring timely closure of actions.
  • Develop, review and maintain a range of risk assessments, including COSHH, DSEAR, DSE, manual handling, noise, work at height and fire safety.
  • Act as a key Health and Safety specialist, providing practical and competent advice across site operations.
  • Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Deliver engagement initiatives, toolbox talks, campaigns and team briefings that strengthen Health and Safety culture.
  • Develop and deliver Health and Safety training, including fire warden, manual handling, risk assessments, incident investigation techniques and COSHH.
  • Coordinate with third-party training providers and maintain accurate training records.
  • Ensure compliant recording of inspections, audits and incidents.
  • Support environmental and occupational hygiene monitoring and implement resulting actions.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, including drills and response readiness.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance within operational areas.
  • Identify trends and contribute to the continuous improvement of Health and Safety performance.
  • Provide structured reporting on risks, trends and improvement actions.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Working knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation and its practical application.
  • Experience in a Health and Safety role within manufacturing, engineering or other high-risk environments.
  • Experience leading inspections, audits and risk assessments.
  • Experience supporting or leading incident investigations.
  • Strong ability to influence behaviours and challenge unsafe practices at all levels.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, organisation and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Familiarity with HSG65 or ISO 45001 is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office for reporting and documentation.

Personal Attributes

You will be proactive, self-motivated and solutions-focused, with a strong sense of ownership and commitment to high standards. You will bring a collaborative approach, excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the adaptability and resilience needed to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
