Full job description

Make buildings safer and shape fire strategy at scale. Join Tetra Tech’s growing Fire Safety team and apply your technical expertise to protect people, assets and operations across public and private sector clients. This is a hands‑on, career‑building role where your assessments and advice will drive real change.

Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Fire Safety Adviser you will deliver high‑quality Type 1–4 fire risk assessments, compartmentation surveys and fire risk management plans for a diverse portfolio of buildings. You will interpret current and emerging UK fire legislation and guidance, record findings clearly and work with clients and project teams to define practical remedial measures. The role combines independent site work, technical reporting and contribution to team development as the practice expands.

Your Impact in this position
Your technical rigour and clear advice will reduce risk, ensure compliance and influence building management and refurbishment decisions. By producing timely, pragmatic reports and collaborating with stakeholders, you’ll help clients meet statutory duties and improve occupant safety across multiple sectors.

Core Capabilities

  • Technical Assessments: Conduct Type 1–4 fire risk assessments; produce concise, actionable reports aligned to client KPIs.
  • Fire Compartmentation & Passive Measures: Undertake compartmentation surveys and assess passive fire protection, specifying remedial works where needed.
  • Legislation & Compliance: Apply current and proposed UK fire legislation and guidance to assess conformity and advise on mitigation.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate professionally with clients, facilities teams and contractors; prepare risk management plans for varied occupancy types.
  • Delivery & Professional Development: Work to deadlines, meet KPIs, pursue CPD and support team growth through knowledge sharing.

Training, Qualifications & Experience
Required: proven fast‑paced Fire Risk Assessor/Adviser experience; IFE or IFSM membership; registration on an approved 3rd‑party assessor register (e.g., TFRAR); full UK driving licence; ability to obtain UK security clearance. Desirable: Level 3/4 Fire Safety diplomas, Cert/DipFD, ASFP or equivalent passive fire training, FPA/Fire Service College modules.
