Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Fishmonger to join our team, four days a week start. The ideal candidate will have a passion for seafood, excellent food safety standards, and experience in food preparation. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where attention to detail and customer service are paramount. The Fishmonger will be responsible for preparing, displaying, and selling fresh fish and seafood products, ensuring high quality and freshness at all times.

Duties

  • Prepare fish and seafood products according to established standards, including filleting, deboning, and portioning
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the fish counter and storage areas in compliance with food safety regulations
  • Assist customers with selecting products, providing expert advice on different types of fish and seafood with a positive attitude
  • Ensure all products are correctly labelled with prices and other relevant information
  • Monitor stock levels regularly and report shortages or damaged goods to management
  • Follow strict hygiene protocols during food handling and preparation processes
  • Keep up-to-date with current seafood trends and new products to enhance customer experience
  • Support the team during busy periods by assisting with other kitchen or retail duties as required
  • Keep uniform clean and always look presentable

Skills

  • Experience preferred in food production, culinary arts, or a similar role within a restaurant or retail environment but willing to train the right individual
  • Strong knowledge of different fish and fishing practices
  • Excellent food preparation skills with an eye for detail in presentation
  • Good understanding of food safety regulations and hygiene practices
  • Previous experience working in customer facing environments
  • Ability to be proactive when the counter is quiet and help other parts of the team
  • Strong communication skills with a friendly approach to customer service
