We are seeking an Able Seaman to join a barge operating from the Port of Aberdeen on an initial six-month contract, with the opportunity for the role to become permanent.

Working as part of a small, close-knit crew alongside the Skipper and Engineer, you will play a key role in the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the vessel. This is a hands-on position where teamwork, reliability and a proactive attitude are essential.

You will support all deck operations, including mooring and unmooring, vessel maintenance, cargo operations and general upkeep, while ensuring all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures and maritime regulations. The role operates primarily Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work depending on operational requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the safe day-to-day operation of the vessel.
• Carry out mooring and unmooring operations safely and efficiently.
• Operate and maintain deck machinery and equipment.
• Assist with cargo transfer and deck operations as required.
• Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance of the vessel and deck equipment.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and housekeeping onboard.
• Support the Captain and Engineer with operational and maintenance tasks.
• Participate in emergency drills and safety exercises.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures, Merchant Shipping Regulations and health and safety requirements.
• Report any defects, hazards or safety concerns promptly.

Requirements

• Previous experience working on fishing vessels, barges or similar commercial vessels.
• Eligible to live and work in the UK.
• Valid ENG1 medical certificate.
• Valid STCW certification.
• Good understanding of the Merchant Shipping (Maritime Labour Convention) Regulations 2018.
• Knowledge of safe mooring operations and general deck maintenance.
• Strong work ethic with the ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
• Safety-focused with good communication skills and a proactive approach.
• Willingness to work occasional weekends when operationally required.

Pay: £150.00-£200.00 per day
