About the Role
The Physical Activity Specialist will play a key role in delivering and developing physical activity interventions as part of Morelife's healthy lifestyle and weight management services. Working closely with children, families, multidisciplinary teams, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders, you will provide expert advice, support behaviour change, and help participants achieve positive health outcomes.
The role involves delivering group and one-to-one interventions, supporting the development of physical activity programmes, monitoring participant progress, and contributing to the continuous improvement of services. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is passionate about physical activity, health improvement, and supporting long-term behaviour change.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality physical activity and healthy lifestyle interventions in both group and one-to-one settings, supporting individuals and families to achieve sustainable behaviour change and improved health outcomes.
- Support children, young people, and families to set SMART goals, providing tailored advice, motivation, and signposting while working collaboratively with schools, school nurses, healthcare professionals, and community partners.
- Maintain accurate records, monitor participant progress, collect service feedback, and contribute towards achieving contractual KPIs, service targets, and continuous quality improvement.
- Provide expert physical activity advice, including exercise prescription for individuals with complex needs where appropriate, while adhering to safeguarding, confidentiality, and organisational policies and procedures.
- Contribute to the development and promotion of MoreLife programmes, working with colleagues and stakeholders to increase engagement, improve services, and ensure participant-centred delivery across Durham.
As part of our team, you will support the delivery of evidence-based physical activity and healthy lifestyle programmes, helping individuals and families develop the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed to make lasting improvements to their health and wellbeing.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a motivated and passionate individual to join our team as a Physical Activity Specialist. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience, and skills:
- A relevant qualification in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Health Promotion, Psychology, Education, Physical Education, Sport & Exercise Science, or a related discipline, with a sound understanding of nutrition and healthy lifestyle principles.
- Experience delivering healthy lifestyle, physical activity, weight management, or behaviour change interventions, including working with children, families, and individuals with complex needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of exercise prescription, behaviour change principles, healthy lifestyles, and participant-centred approaches to health improvement.
- Strong organisational, administrative, and IT skills, with experience maintaining accurate records, monitoring outcomes, and using Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with participants, families, healthcare professionals, and multidisciplinary teams.
