Female Health & Fitness Coach / Personal Trainer
Job details
Full job description
Overview
THRIVE is looking for an experienced, proactive and highly organised female Health & Fitness Coach / Personal Trainer to join our growing team on a full-time basis.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants more than a conventional personal training role. Alongside coaching our members, you will play an important part in the day-to-day running of the studio, leading our member experience, supporting coach development, contributing to sales and helping shape the future of the business.
We are looking for someone who takes genuine ownership of their work. Someone who notices the little things, anticipates what needs doing, brings ideas to the table and takes action without needing to be asked. You should be confident working independently, comfortable taking the lead and motivated to continually improve both yourself and the environment around you.
We want someone who thinks like a coach, acts like a leader and takes pride in the success of the whole business.
THRIVE Personal Training & Health is a private personal training studio located between Highgate and Hampstead. We provide small-group personal training (SGPT) and 1-to-1 coaching, with a focus on delivering exceptional service through a scientific, holistic and evidence-based approach to health and fitness.
Our mission is to raise the standards and redefine what personal training means. We believe excellent coaching extends beyond the session itself. It means understanding our members, holding them accountable, helping them progress and creating an environment in which they feel supported and motivated to achieve their goals.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for someone who wants to contribute to that vision, take ownership of their role and help us build something exceptional.
The Role
This is a varied, full-time position combining hands-on coaching with member experience, sales, administration, team support and studio operations.
You will have responsibility for your own coaching and administrative duties, while also helping to oversee the wider member journey and supporting the development of our coaches.
You will be trained in our systems and processes, including making sales calls to prospective members. As you become established in the role, you will have increasing scope to take the initiative, improve existing processes and introduce ideas of your own.
We are not looking for someone who simply completes a checklist. We want someone who identifies what needs improving, thinks critically about how to improve it and takes responsibility for making it happen.
Responsibilities
Coaching
- Confidently lead small-group personal training sessions, coaching up to 6 members at a time.
- Deliver high-quality 1-to-1 personal training sessions.
- Assess members' needs, establish appropriate goals and create clear plans of action to achieve them.
- Design and adapt effective, individualised training programmes based on each member's goals, abilities and progress.
- Monitor member progress and ensure coaching remains purposeful, progressive and appropriate.
- Educate members on exercise technique, training principles and relevant health and fitness topics.
- Build strong relationships with members, helping them develop confidence, consistency and long-term healthy habits.
- Maintain high coaching standards and ensure every member receives an attentive, professional and personalised experience.
Member Experience & Retention
- Take the lead in maintaining and improving the overall member experience at THRIVE.
- Check in with assigned members weekly, keeping them accountable and addressing any barriers to progress.
- Monitor member engagement, attendance, progress and satisfaction, identifying concerns before they become bigger problems.
- Ensure member reviews, assessments, progress checks and follow-ups are completed consistently and to a high standard.
- Identify opportunities to improve member retention, satisfaction and the quality of our service.
- Take ownership of issues and follow them through to resolution rather than waiting to be prompted.
Sales & Business Development
- Learn and confidently use our sales processes, including making calls to prospective members and following up with leads.
- Communicate the THRIVE service clearly and professionally, understanding prospective members' needs and explaining how we can help.
- Follow up with enquiries consistently and ensure leads are managed in a timely and organised manner.
- Help convert suitable prospective members into long-term THRIVE members.
- Contribute ideas that support business growth and improve the effectiveness of our sales processes.
Administration & Studio Operations
- Complete weekly administrative responsibilities accurately and on time.
- Keep member records, progress information, follow-ups and relevant systems up to date.
- Maintain oversight of outstanding tasks, upcoming reviews, member needs and operational priorities.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, attention to detail and organisation throughout the working day.
Team Leadership & Content Creation
- Support and supervise our other coaches, helping maintain consistent standards across the team.
- Assist with filming social media content alongside the other coaches, helping capture the coaching, culture and day-to-day life of THRIVE.
- Lead by example through your attitude, work ethic, professionalism and commitment to high standards.
- Communicate clearly with the team, share relevant information and ensure responsibilities are followed through.
- Be observant and proactive, recognising when colleagues, members or the business need support.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative and accountable team environment.
Qualifications and experience matter, but your attitude, character and approach to work will be just as important as your technical ability.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Highly organised: You plan ahead, manage your time effectively, keep on top of competing priorities and rarely need reminding to complete tasks.
- Proactive and switched on: You notice things, anticipate problems and recognise what needs doing without waiting for instructions.
- Independent: You can be trusted to manage your responsibilities, make sensible decisions and work productively without constant supervision.
- A natural leader: You take charge when appropriate, communicate confidently and lead by example.
- Accountable: You take ownership of your work, acknowledge mistakes, resolve issues and follow things through to completion.
- Detail-oriented: You care about the small things because you understand how they contribute to the overall member experience.
- Energetic and enthusiastic: You bring focus, initiative and a positive presence to the studio, particularly during early starts.
- Professional: You communicate clearly, behave appropriately and represent THRIVE to a consistently high standard.
- Caring and personable: You can build rapport with a wide range of people and make members feel comfortable, understood and supported.
- Growth-minded: You actively seek feedback, invest in your development and are willing to question your assumptions and improve your approach.
- Creative and solution-focused: You bring ideas, look for better ways of working and are comfortable testing new approaches.
- Hard-working: You take pride in doing a job properly and understand that the success of a small business depends on everyone contributing beyond the bare minimum of their job description.
You should be comfortable receiving feedback, adapting to change and learning new skills. We value people who are confident in their abilities but humble enough to recognise that there is always more to learn.
Creative Freedom & Development
We want the successful candidate to help shape their role rather than simply follow a fixed set of instructions.
You will be encouraged to contribute ideas, challenge existing processes constructively and explore ways to improve the business. Whether that means refining the member journey, improving our systems, developing new initiatives or contributing to our marketing, you will have the freedom to take ownership and make a meaningful contribution.
You will have the opportunity to develop professionally, expand your skill set and take on greater responsibility as the business grows.
In return, we expect initiative, accountability and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement. Freedom comes with responsibility, and we want someone who makes good use of both.
Working Hours
- Contracted hours: 40 hours per week.
- Typical working day: Approximately 6:00 am to 2:00 pm.
- Saturday working: Alternate Saturday mornings are required to begin with.
- Start time: You must be able to arrive at the studio ready to work for a 6:00 am start.
This role requires someone who is reliable, punctual and comfortable working early mornings. The weekly rota will be arranged around the contracted hours and required Saturday cover.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum Level 3 Personal Training qualification.
- At least three years of active personal training experience following qualification.
- Demonstrable experience coaching everyday people, including beginners and those with limited training experience.
- Strong technical knowledge and the ability to coach exercise safely and effectively.
- Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work independently, manage responsibilities and demonstrate initiative.
- A genuine interest in health, fitness and ongoing professional development.
Desirable
- Experience with any of the listed roles and requirements.
- Additional qualifications in areas such as pre- and postnatal exercise, nutrition, or other relevant health and fitness disciplines.
Why Join THRIVE?
- A varied role that combines coaching, leadership, member experience and business operations.
- The opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a growing independent fitness business.
- Creative freedom to introduce ideas, improve systems and help shape how we operate.
- The opportunity to develop new professional skills beyond traditional personal training.
- A supportive environment that values high standards, accountability and continuous improvement.
- The opportunity to take on greater responsibility as THRIVE grows.
Our values are Transparency, Holistic, Respect, Innovation, Versatile and Excellence. We expect our team to understand these values and demonstrate them through their everyday decisions and interactions.
How to Apply
If you believe you have the experience, initiative and personality we are looking for, please submit:
- Your CV.
- A short cover letter explaining why you are suitable for the role and what you would bring to THRIVE.
- Your social media handle and/or video evidence of yourself coaching or training, if available. If you do not have either, please make this clear in your cover letter.
We are interested in understanding not just what you have done, but how you approach your work, what motivates you and how you would contribute to the future of THRIVE.
If this sounds like you, we would like to hear from you.
