About the Role

Merchant Taylors’ Company is seeking an enthusiastic and thorough Housekeeper to support our housekeeping team in maintaining Merchant Taylors’ Hall to the high standard our members and guests expect from us.

We place great importance on high-quality work and a positive, collaborative approach within our small team. After training, we also need our housekeepers to take appropriate care of antique furniture and objects.

How You Bring Value:

Reporting into the Head Housekeeper and the Beadle, you will be part of a small team that takes full ownership of the daily cleaning of the Hall. You will take pride in knowing that all rooms are cleaned and ready to be used for all nature of functions for visitors, members, and employees.

Cleaning

  • Maintaining all areas of Merchant Taylors’ Hall to a high standard
  • Emptying bins and making sure all workstations are cleaned
  • Mopping, sweeping, dusting, polishing all areas of the Hall which need it (including radiators, windowsills, mirrors, toilets, urinals, sinks etc)
  • Replenish toiletries such as soap, sanitisers, toilet paper and paper towels.
  • Brassing – high and low levels.
  • Stock Control, stores

Laundry

  • Keep a robust record of items leaving and entering the building and reporting any discrepancies, damages to linen and uniform to external companies
  • Sorting laundry
  • Moving heavy bags of laundry
  • Actively washing Company items in advance

Lunches

  • Prepare the staff lunch area for daily lunches, which includes setting and clearing tables
  • Replenishing food during lunchtimes
  • Cleaning the room once lunches are finished for the day

Events

  • Prioritise the preparation of rooms for the days/weekly events, as and when required
  • Use of internal IT system for emails and events

Health & safety

  • You will report defects and hazards immediately to the Facilities Manager or the Beadle
  • Complete all necessary Health and Safety training
  • Use chemical agents as trained and directed
  • Attend Food Hygiene safety and Allergen safety training
  • As with all our roles, you must attend meetings and participate in Company training and development activities as required.
