Full job description

Achilleus Security is NOW recruiting Event & Football Safety Stewards in the Ipswich area.

We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable and professional people to join our growing team, working at football matches, stadiums, sporting events, festivals and other major events in Ipswich and the surrounding area.

There may also be opportunities to work at events and venues across Hampshire, London, Essex, Suffolk and the Home Counties, if you are happy to travel.

This is a part-time, casual position, with work offered on an as-and-when-required basis. It is particularly suited to people looking for flexible event work, including evenings and weekends.

JOIN THE ACHILLEUS SECURITY TEAM

Our Safety Stewards are a vital part of the safety, security and customer service operation at every event and venue at which we work.

You will be working directly with members of the public and will play an important role in helping to create a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for everyone attending.

We understand the event safety and security industry and recognise that many experienced stewards work for more than one company. We have no issue with this. What matters to us is that when you accept a shift with Achilleus Security, you honour that commitment, arrive ready to work and maintain the professional standards we expect from our team.

Previous experience is welcomed, but it is not essential for the right candidate.

SPECTATOR SAFETY QUALIFICATION

Our Safety Stewards are required to hold, or be working towards, an appropriate Level 2 or Level 3 Spectator Safety qualification or recognised equivalent.

Don't already have the qualification?

Don't worry. If you are the right candidate, we can help and support you in working towards this important industry qualification at a highly subsidised rate.

WHAT WE OFFER YOU

Working with Achilleus Security means joining an established and experienced event safety and security company with opportunities to work at a wide range of exciting venues and events.

As part of our team, you can expect:

  • Hourly rates from £15.07 to £15.69 per hour, depending on qualification, role and venue
  • Rates inclusive of holiday pay
  • Rates applicable from 1 April 2026
  • Minimum 5 hours' pay per shift
  • Monthly PAYE pay
  • Wagestream, allowing eligible team members access to up to 50% of earned wages
  • Company Pension Scheme, subject to eligibility
  • Flexible, part-time casual working
  • Modern app-based booking and roster system
  • Training and professional development opportunities
  • Support towards nationally recognised Spectator Safety qualifications
  • Free Learning Management System with access to more than 20 courses
  • Selected free online CPD training
  • Supportive management and operational teams
  • Opportunities to progress to Team Leader, Supervisor and other senior operational positions
  • No charges for insurance or required PPE
  • Subsidised branded uniform
  • Opportunities to work at additional venues and events across the UK

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over
  • Have a good command of written and spoken English
  • Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Spectator Safety qualification, recognised equivalent, or be prepared to work towards the required qualification
  • Be professional, reliable and punctual
  • Be willing to work as part of a team
  • Be available for event work, which is predominantly during evenings and weekends
  • Be prepared to undertake ongoing training and Continuing Professional Development
  • Be physically capable of carrying out a safety-critical role, which may involve prolonged periods of standing, walking and using stairs
  • Be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors and in varying weather conditions
  • Be able to attend the shifts they have accepted and committed to

RECRUITMENT & SCREENING REQUIREMENTS

As part of our recruitment and screening process, applicants must be able to provide:

  • Photographic proof of identity
  • Evidence of their Right to Work in the UK
  • Recent and acceptable proof of address
  • A minimum five-year checkable history for screening and vetting purposes
  • Any additional documentation reasonably required to complete our recruitment, screening and vetting process

Please note: being able to provide a satisfactory five-year checkable history is an essential requirement of the role.

All team members are engaged and paid through PAYE. We do not offer these roles on a self-employed or UTR basis.

WHAT DOES THE ROLE INVOLVE?

As an Event / Football Safety Steward, you will form part of the operational team responsible for helping to maintain the safety and wellbeing of customers, staff and other people attending the venues and events at which we work.

You will interact regularly with members of the public and may be responsible for providing information, directing spectators, monitoring crowds and supporting venue safety procedures.

Your duties may include:

  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Welcoming and assisting spectators and guests
  • Monitoring access and egress points
  • Providing information and directions
  • Supporting crowd safety plans and procedures
  • Monitoring crowds for signs of distress, overcrowding or disorder
  • Reporting suspicious or concerning behaviour
  • Ticket validation and accreditation checks
  • Assisting with ingress and egress
  • Monitoring the safe movement of spectators
  • Supporting emergency evacuation or invacuation procedures
  • Responding appropriately to incidents and emergencies as directed
  • Reporting and recording accidents, incidents, irregularities and near misses
  • Supporting venue rules, policies and safety procedures
  • Maintaining safe working environments
  • Following instructions from supervisors, venue management and the event control structure

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We're looking for people who take pride in doing a job properly — not simply turning up to collect a wage.

Our ideal team members will:

  • Have a positive and professional attitude
  • Be calm under pressure
  • Be able to think clearly in stressful or emotive situations
  • Have a genuine willingness to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be polite, respectful and courteous
  • Work effectively as part of a team
  • Be reliable and responsible
  • Have a flexible, can-do attitude
  • Maintain good standards of grooming and presentation
  • Be self-motivated
  • Adapt quickly to changing situations
  • Be comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions
  • Be approachable and confident when dealing with members of the public
  • Be willing to learn and continually improve
  • Behave maturely and professionally
  • Most importantly, be someone we can rely upon to attend the shifts they have agreed to work

Previous experience in event stewarding, football, stadiums, customer service or crowd safety would be an advantage but is not essential.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROGRESSION

Achilleus Security is an established and growing company, and we are always looking for talented people who have the potential to progress.

Team members who demonstrate reliability, professionalism, leadership ability and consistently high standards may have opportunities to progress into Team Leader, Supervisor and other senior operational positions.

If you want to develop within the event safety and security industry, we want to help you do it.

OUR RECRUITMENT PROCESS

We take recruitment seriously because the quality and professionalism of our team directly affects the service we provide to our clients and the safety of the public.

Our initial interview process is completed online using our recruitment portal.

You will be invited to record video responses to a series of interview questions. We're not looking for the next Hollywood star! We simply want to learn more about you, how you communicate and whether you demonstrate the qualities we are looking for.

One of the advantages of the online interview is that you can complete it at a convenient time and, where the system allows, re-record your responses before submitting them.

All you need is a smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer with a camera and internet connection.

The recruitment process includes:

  • Pre-interview questionnaire
  • Online video interview
  • Application form and ID/document submission
  • Screening, vetting and onboarding

We aim to progress suitable applicants through the recruitment process as quickly as possible. However, how quickly we can complete your application will depend significantly on how promptly you complete each stage and provide the documents and information requested from you.
