ROLE: ACADEMY SUPPORT WORKER
TYPE: PART-TIME
Reporting directly to the Player Wellbeing Manager, the Academy Support Worker will provide a visible, approachable and consistent wellbeing presence across Celtic FC Academy, primarily during evening and weekend activity.
Working as part of the Wellbeing Team, the postholder will build positive relationships with players, parents/carers and staff, provide appropriate wellbeing support and promote positive mental health, children’s rights and safe working practices across the Academy.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide a visible and accessible wellbeing presence across Academy activity.
- Promote positive mental health, wellbeing and safe working practices throughout the Academy.
- Build and maintain positive, supportive relationships with Academy players and their parents/carers.
- Form effective working relationships with coaches, medical staff, managers and colleagues across the Club.
- Provide appropriate wellbeing support, guidance and signposting to players and parents, escalating concerns where required.
- Support coaching staff, players and families through key stages of the Academy journey, including onboarding, pathway discussions, transitions and exit.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of wellbeing education and workshops for Academy players
- Promote Children’s Rights and support meaningful player participation and player voice across the Academy
- Assist in creating forums for engagement with parents and coaches
- Maintain appropriate records and share relevant wellbeing information in line with Club policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the wider Wellbeing Team and contribute to the ongoing development of wellbeing provision across the Academy.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Educated to, or working towards, SVQ2/SCQF Level 5 in a relevant discipline such as Community Learning & Development, Health & Social Care, Social Services (Children & Young People), or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience of working directly with children and young people and an understanding of their developmental and wellbeing needs.
- Ability to build positive and supportive relationships with children, young people and their parents/carers.
- An understanding of safeguarding, child protection, confidentiality and safe working practices when working with children and young people.
- An understanding of Children’s Rights and the importance of children and young people having opportunities to express their views and participate in matters that affect them.
- Experience of working collaboratively with other professionals and as part of a wider team.
- Approachable, empathetic and able to build positive relationships with children, young people, parents/carers and colleagues.
- Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to recognise when a wellbeing or safeguarding concern requires escalation and seek appropriate support.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative while recognising the boundaries and responsibilities of the role.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Organised, reliable and proactive, with the ability to manage time and prioritise responsibilities effectively.
- Committed to promoting positive mental health, wellbeing, inclusion and Children’s Rights.
Desirable
- Further qualification in social care, youth work, education, mental health, wellbeing, community learning or another relevant discipline.
- Experience of working with children and young people within a sporting, education, youth work or community setting.
- Experience of supporting children and young people through periods of transition or change.
- Knowledge or experience of safeguarding and wellbeing within a sporting environment.
- Experience of supporting youth participation or other activities which promote the meaningful involvement of children and young people.
- Experience of supporting or delivering group work, workshops or wellbeing activities with children and young people.
Additional Requirement
- Full driving license.
- Ability to work flexible hours – afternoons, evenings and weekends.
- Ability to travel between Celtic FC Academy sites and other locations as required.
- Appointment will be subject to the appropriate safeguarding and recruitment checks for working with children and young people.
