Full job description

We lead the UK’s diplomatic, development and consular work around the world. We employ around 17,000 staff in our global network of 281 offices worldwide. Our UK-based staff work in King Charles Street in London, Abercrombie House in East Kilbride and Hanslope Park in Milton Keynes.

Your role with us

As an Administrative Officer, you’ll bring strong organisation, numeracy and literacy skills to our Human Resources Operations department. You’re someone who takes responsibility for their work and commits to a high standard of customer service.

You’ll offer administrative support through creating and maintaining electronic filing systems, databases and distribution lists. Alongside this, you’ll handle telephone and email enquiries, organise meetings and events – and take notes. You will also provide guidance for staff on HR regulations. To help the office tick along, you’ll maintain stationary supplies and take on roles such as first aider (which we’ll provide training for).

Knowledge and information management will also be your responsibility. This will entail maintaining Excel spreadsheets, databases, records and desk notes. You’ll grow increasingly confident using Microsoft software, such as Outlook, Teams and Word.

We’d also appreciate your support in project management, such as monitoring progress against objectives and ensuring that schedules are met.

This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody that would like to enter a career in HR.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with strong literacy, numeracy and IT skills. You can competently use IT packages including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Teams) and are experienced at mailbox management.

Strong interpersonal, team-working and communication skills are key. Crucially, you’re well-organised and a proactive planner. You’re able to make effective decisions through identifying problems and proposing solutions for a quality service.

You must be at least eighteen years old and a British citizen at the time of application. This role requires Developed Vetting (DV), which will require you to have lived in the UK for at least five of the last ten years.

We value diversity and inclusion and actively encourage and welcome applications from all communities. Everyone here gets the support to develop their skills and capabilities as well as benefits that help to make the most of life in and out of work, including a Civil Service pension.

Use your talent and experience to shape our nation’s future, and deliver tangible improvements to millions of lives, including your own.

Closing date: 6 July 2026.
