Morgue Technician

Sanctuary Personnel is recruiting for an experienced Morgue Technician to relocate from the UK to Bermuda and join the Laboratory Services team within a hospital setting.

This is a permanent international opportunity for a qualified mortuary professional with experience supporting post-mortem examinations, maintaining mortuary facilities and ensuring the respectful and dignified care of deceased individuals.

The position includes a $5,000 relocation package and significant accommodation support to help make the move to Bermuda as straightforward as possible.

The Role

As a Morgue Technician, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the morgue, including the receipt, storage and release of deceased individuals, maintenance of accurate records and supporting the Pathologist during post-mortem examinations.

You will play an important role in ensuring that all mortuary procedures are carried out safely, professionally and with dignity and respect.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, store and release deceased individuals in accordance with established procedures.
• Complete and maintain accurate documentation relating to deceased individuals, including clothing and personal valuables.
• Maintain the chain of custody for personal belongings and relevant documentation.
• Liaise with the Pathologist regarding authorised access to the morgue, including viewing requests and access to belongings or post-mortem records.
• Assist the Pathologist with post-mortem examinations and related procedures.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary and well-organised morgue environment in conjunction with housekeeping staff.
• Ensure mortuary equipment and instruments are maintained in good working condition.
• Carry out daily checks of morgue coolers and maintain accurate temperature logs.
• Report equipment faults, temperature issues and maintenance concerns promptly.
• Ensure all procedures involving deceased individuals are conducted with appropriate dignity, care and professionalism.
• Follow relevant health, safety, hygiene and infection prevention procedures.

Requirements

• Certificate or Diploma in Mortuary Technology and Hygiene from the Royal Institute of Public Health and Hygiene, or an equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience working in a morgue or mortuary.
• Previous experience assisting with post-mortem examinations/autopsies.
• Strong understanding of mortuary procedures, hygiene requirements and the respectful handling of deceased individuals.
• Excellent attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work professionally within a sensitive and highly confidential environment.
• Ability to work effectively alongside Pathologists and wider healthcare teams.
• Willingness and ability to relocate to Bermuda permanently.

Relocation & Accommodation Package

This role includes support for successful candidates relocating to Bermuda:

• $5,000 relocation package
• $3,000 paid with your first salary package.
• $2,000 paid following completion of 12 months' service.
• Free accommodation for the first 3 months, including utility bills.
• After the initial 3 months, you can either:
• Remain in staff accommodation at a subsidised rate, including utilities; or
• Arrange private accommodation independently.
• Please be aware that the cost of living in Bermuda is high.
• The accommodation provision is available for candidates relocating alone or with a partner.

Pay: £70,000.00 per year
