Forestry Sub-Contractors – Individuals and Groups

Location: Central Belt Scotland and surrounding areas
Basis: Self-employed sub-contract work
Availability: Full-time, part-time, seasonal and ad-hoc opportunities

Action Forestry Services is accepting applications from individuals and established forestry groups to join our team and help meet our growing workload.

We welcome experienced forestry sub-contractors as well as reliable new entrants looking to build their experience in the industry. Work will be allocated according to experience, qualifications, availability and operational requirements.

Types of Work

Opportunities may include:

  • Commercial softwood and hardwood planting
  • Restocking and beat-up planting
  • Tree protection installation and maintenance
  • Weevil and herbicide spraying
  • Manual and mechanical weeding
  • Brushcutting and chainsaw work
  • Surveys and general woodland maintenance

Who We Are Looking For

We are interested in applications from:

  • Experienced individual forestry sub-contractors
  • Established forestry groups or squads
  • Qualified chainsaw, ATV, brushcutter or pesticide operators
  • New or inexperienced applicants with a reliable attitude and willingness to learn

Previous forestry experience is not required for every opportunity. New entrants should be physically capable, dependable, comfortable working outdoors in challenging conditions and able to follow instructions and safety procedures.

Individuals who demonstrate reliability, strong work standards and a positive attitude may have the opportunity to become part of our regular core sub-contractor squad. This will be subject to a successful trial period, suitable ongoing work and consistently meeting our safety, quality and productivity standards.

Relevant Qualifications

Useful qualifications include:

  • Chainsaw certificates
  • ATV certificate
  • PA1 and PA6 pesticide certificates
  • First aid certificate
  • Brushcutter or clearing saw certificate
  • Other forestry or land-based qualifications

Applicants without qualifications may still apply, although certain work can only be undertaken by appropriately trained and certified operators.

Sub-Contractor Requirements

Applicants must be self-employed or willing to register as self-employed and will be responsible for their own tax, National Insurance and related obligations.

Successful applicants may also be required to:

  • Provide evidence of relevant qualifications
  • Provide a valid UTR number
  • Follow company and site-specific safety procedures
  • Work to the required quality and productivity standards
  • Provide suitable PPE, equipment or insurance where required
  • Report hazards, incidents and quality concerns promptly

Specific working arrangements will be confirmed before any work is allocated.

Rates

Competitive sub-contractor rates will be offered based on the type of work, site conditions, required experience and qualifications.

Rates and payment arrangements will be agreed before the start of each contract, so everyone understands the work specification and agreed terms before attending site.
