The Company:

Founded in 2012 in Cambridge, UK, Pangaea Biosciences Limited are a fast-growing Norwich based company that focuses on developing highly effective patented crop protection products for the agricultural industry that are both environmentally friendly and sustainable.

The Role:

As part of our ongoing expansion, Pangaea Biosciences is looking for a Formulation Chemist /Scientist to develop and improve products for the agrochemical industry. You will turn product requirements into practical formulation options, plan and run laboratory trials, and recommend solutions based on performance, stability, safety, cost and manufacturing needs.

You will work closely with the laboratory team and colleagues across the business, helping take formulations from early ideas through testing and towards production

The Role:

• Develop new formulations and improve existing products in response to technical, customer and business requirements.
• Propose and assess suitable ingredients, formulation types and process options.
• Plan, carry out and document laboratory experiments and formulation trials.
• Assess product properties such as stability, compatibility, appearance, viscosity, dispersibility, solubility and ease of application, as relevant to the product.
• Analyse trial results, identify issues and recommend next steps.
• Prepare clear formulation instructions and recipes for sample preparation and laboratory or production trials.
• Work with the Formulation Laboratory Technician to plan sample preparation and keep trial work organised.
• Support scale-up and transfer of formulations from laboratory trials to pilot or manufacturing production.
• Investigate formulation, process or product quality issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Keep accurate records of formulations, methods, results, changes and conclusions, following company procedures.
• Work with colleagues in production, quality, regulatory, sales and purchasing to ensure formulations meet technical and business needs.
• Liaise with ingredient suppliers to understand material specifications, availability, alternatives and technical information.
• Consider relevant health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements during formulation development, and work with the appropriate internal specialists.
• Maintain a safe, organised laboratory and follow applicable procedures for chemical handling, storage and waste disposal.

What we’re looking for:

• A degree in Chemistry, Chemical Science, Formulation Science or a closely related subject.
• Practical experience in formulation development, ideally in agrochemicals, crop protection, fertilisers, biostimulants or a related chemical industry.
• Knowledge of formulation ingredients and how their properties affect product performance.
• Experience designing and interpreting laboratory trials, with a methodical approach to problem solving.
• Strong record keeping and clear written and verbal communication.
• The ability to explain technical findings and recommend practical options to colleagues.
• Confidence working independently on laboratory tasks and collaboratively across teams.
• A sound understanding of laboratory safety and chemical handling.

Relevant industrial formulation experience may be considered in place of a specific degree subject. Experience with agrochemical formulation types and applicable regulatory requirements would be an advantage.

• Salary: £45-55K (depending on experience)
