Café Manager — New Opening

El Dorado is a family-run Edinburgh food business built around authentic Mexican recipes, great food and warm hospitality. We’re opening a new café and looking for a hands-on Café Manager to lead the team and manage all aspects of its daily operation.

Alongside our Mexican favourites, we’ll offer quality coffee, breakfast, fresh lunches and sweet treats, plus catering for meetings and events.

Working closely with the owner, you’ll help build a welcoming café, develop the team and establish strong daily routines from the beginning.

With daytime shifts and evenings off, you can grow your hospitality career while keeping your evenings for yourself.

What you’ll be doing

• Managing the café’s daily operation, including opening and closing
• Leading service and creating a welcoming experience for every customer
• Preparing coffee, serving food and supporting food preparation
• Training, supervising and supporting the team
• Planning rotas, allocating duties and organising staff cover
• Managing suppliers, ordering stock and checking deliveries
• Completing stocktakes, controlling costs and reducing waste
• Keeping counters and fridges well presented and stocked
• Maintaining consistent food, coffee and customer service standards
• Overseeing cleaning, food hygiene, allergen procedures and health and safety
• Managing tills, cashing up and completing daily reports
• Coordinating catering orders for meetings and events
• Handling customer feedback professionally
• Reporting regularly to the owner on sales, staffing, stock, costs and operational matters
• Working with the owner on menu ideas, promotions and improvements

This is a hands-on management role. You’ll lead by example and be happy to step into any part of the café to keep service running smoothly.

What we’re looking for

• Previous experience managing or supervising a café or similar hospitality business
• Barista experience and a commitment to consistently good coffee
• A friendly, confident approach to customers and colleagues
• Strong organisation, reliability and attention to detail
• Experience with stock ordering, supplier management and waste control
• Confidence training staff, delegating tasks and maintaining standards
• Good food hygiene and allergen knowledge
• The ability to stay calm, solve problems and take responsibility during busy periods
• Confidence reporting directly to the owner, providing clear updates and raising issues promptly
• A proactive attitude, with ideas for improving service and growing the business

Experience opening a new venue or organising meeting and event catering would be an advantage.
