Job Overview
We’re looking for a hands-on, reliable Kitchen Assistant to join our cafe kitchen which is in Craster Northumberland. You’ll be working alongside our kitchen porter in a two-person setup, taking the lead on prepping food, making sandwiches and toasties, baking cakes and scones, and supporting daily kitchen operations.

This is a great role for someone who enjoys working in a small team, takes pride in their prep and baking, and can stay organised under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily ingredients for service (vegetables, spreads, sauces, meats)
  • Make and assemble sandwiches, toasties, and other simple menu items
  • Bake cakes, scones, and other in-house baked goods
  • Maintain food safety and hygiene standards at all times
  • Label, date, and store ingredients properly
  • Support with kitchen cleaning, organisation, and stock rotation
  • Work efficiently in a compact kitchen space with a focus on cleanliness and speed

Experience

  • Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not essential; a willingness to learn is key.
  • Familiarity with culinary techniques and food preparation methods will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude are essential for success in this role.
