About the Role

Essex Medical Training is seeking an experienced Freelance Clinical Moving & Handling Trainer to join our expanding team delivering high-quality healthcare training to NHS organisations.

We are specifically looking for an individual with a strong clinical patient handling background, who understands the difference between evidence-based moving & handling practice and generic “off-the-shelf” manual handling training.

This role involves delivering both:

  • Mandatory NHS Moving & Handling training for healthcare staff
  • Specialist and bespoke patient handling sessions for Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and clinical teams

Experience facilitating bed rail safety and entrapment training is highly desirable.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinician-educator who is passionate about safe, modern, evidence-based patient handling practice.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Significant experience in clinical patient moving & handling
  • Previous experience teaching or facilitating healthcare training
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based patient handling principles
  • Ability to confidently deliver engaging, professional classroom-based training
  • Up-to-date CPD relevant to moving & handling / patient handling
  • Experience adapting training to different clinical environments and staff groups
  • Full UK driving licence and own transport
  • Willingness to travel across Ilford, Waltham Forest, Chelmsford and surrounding areas

Desirable Background & Qualifications

We would particularly welcome applicants from:

  • Occupational Therapy (OT)
  • Physiotherapy
  • Moving & Handling Advisors
  • Experienced Manual Handling / Patient Handling Specialists within healthcare settings.

The following are highly desirable:

  • Demonstrable experience delivering training to NHS staff
  • Experience delivering specialist OT / Physio patient handling sessions
  • Experience facilitating bed rail and entrapment training
  • Knowledge of current best practice, including rehabilitation and functional movement approaches

Qualifications / Professional Memberships

Applicants should be able to demonstrate relevant qualifications and memberships where appropriate, including:

  • Relevant teaching/training qualification
  • Professional registration (where applicable), such as HCPC,NMC.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies such as the National Back Exchange (NBE)
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD and clinical competence
