Test Engineer
Company: Xstrahl Ltd
Department: Research and Development
Location: Brownhills, Walsall, UK
Salary range to include on advert: £30,000.00 to £35,000.00 per annum
Company Overview
Xstrahl is proud to be an industry leading medical technology company that designs clinical and research systems to help eradicate cancer. For more than 20 years, Xstrahl has been shaping the development of superficial and orthovoltage therapies for cancer treatment and advancing pre-clinical research. Xstrahl systems are in operation at more than 700 treatment and research facilities worldwide.
Are you a passionate problem solver who enjoys working with a meaningful mission?
With recent growth, we are looking to hire a Test Engineer to join our team in Brownhills, Walsall. This position provides an exciting opportunity to directly impact the quality of patient treatment worldwide. The Test Engineer will be responsible for understanding the product requirements and its features and executing the test scripts and procedures written by the project team to test the product.
What’s involved?
As a Test Engineer, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you’ll provide prompt and professional engineering support to Xstrahl therapy and research cabinet systems worldwide — putting the mechanical, electromechanical and electronic hardware that make up our X-ray therapy platforms through their paces, alongside the software that drives them. You’ll execute the test scripts and procedures set by the project team, In order to achieve this, your responsibilities will include:
- Attending meetings with the design team to understand the product details and the test scripts to be executed (for example, intended use, requirements, software design, and hardware design).
- Executing approved test plans, test cases and test scripts (including usability testing) for the products (software and hardware), following documented procedures precisely.
- Carrying out automated and manual test scripts as instructed, and flagging opportunities for improvement to the project team.
- Reporting product quality issues and working with the team in resolving the issues.
- Following all tests and procedures in line with the Company’s Quality Management System and Regulatory standards.
- Accurately recording and documenting test results to support regulatory submission.
What does it take to be successful?
Precision and rigour will be fundamental in this role — as a Test Engineer you’ll follow documented test scripts and procedures. This will naturally require an individual who has a meticulous eye for detail and the discipline to execute tests consistently and repeatably, rather than someone looking to define the test strategy themselves. In addition, you’ll also need:
- A relevant engineering background (Mechanical, Electromechanical, Manufacturing, Biomedical, or similar) is helpful, but no specific degree is required — what matters most is hands-on experience testing electromechanical or hardware systems.
- Comfortable working hands-on with mechanical assemblies, moving parts, and physical test rigs/fixtures, alongside electronic and electromechanical instrumentation.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in testing hardware or electromechanical products (software testing experience is a plus, not essential).
- Working knowledge of Medical Products Quality Management System.
- Good communication skills and ability to work seamlessly with cross-functional teams.
- Collaborative approach towards problem solving.
- Experience in Medical/Life Sciences radiation products (desirable).
- Experience in Agile Methodology (desirable)
- Experience in creating documentation/report for regulatory compliance (FDA, CE etc) (desirable).
What’s in it for you?
- Competitive salary
- Generous annual bonus scheme
- Life Assurance
- Access to an award winning Employee Assistance Program with 24/7 support
- Opportunity to learn and grow with a personal development plan
