Full job description

ENGLISH TEACHER

Swift House, Suffolk

Support, nurture, inspire, empower

On Track Swift House

Are you an engaging English teacher looking for the opportunity to make a genuine difference in a small, supportive specialist school?

Swift House is a specialist independent school for autistic pupils and young people with related needs. Set within a peaceful rural estate, the school provides an ideal environment for calm, focused learning.

Since opening in September 2023, Swift House has built an inclusive and supportive learning environment, with small class sizes and high staff-to-student ratios allowing us to provide personalised support for every pupil.

We offer a broad curriculum up to GCSE level, helping pupils to develop confidence, achieve meaningful qualifications and build the skills they need to make a successful transition into further education, employment and adult life.

The role

We are looking for a dedicated and engaging English teacher who can deliver high-quality teaching and support across a broad curriculum. Key responsibilities include:

· Planning and delivering engaging, high-quality English lessons for secondary-aged pupils, including preparation for appropriate qualifications and GCSEs

· Developing pupils' literacy, communication skills and confidence in reading, writing and spoken English

· Delivering clear, structured lessons that build knowledge and skills and support pupils to make meaningful progress

· Setting personalised learning targets which reflect pupils' prior attainment, individual needs and wider developmental goals

· Adapting teaching approaches and resources to meet the SEN and individual learning needs of each pupil

· Assessing and monitoring pupil understanding and using outcomes to inform teaching and targeted support

· Working collaboratively with the Head Teacher, leadership team and wider school staff to provide an inclusive, engaging and supportive learning experience

For further details on this role, please download our Information Pack for Job Applicants.

About you

You'll thrive in a supportive, SEN-focused environment and bring creativity, resilience and commitment to everything you do.

Ideally, you will:

· Hold a recognised teaching qualification such as QTS, QTLS or PGCE, although we will consider applications from candidates with relevant skills and experience

· Have experience of teaching English to secondary-aged pupils and be confident delivering engaging lessons across a range of abilities

· Have experience of working in an SEN setting, or a strong interest in developing your career within specialist education

· Be able to adapt curriculum content and use a variety of teaching approaches to engage and inspire individual learners

· Demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practice, positive behaviour support and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning

· Be patient, flexible and able to build positive, trusting relationships with young people

· Hold a full driving licence and have access to your own vehicle

About On Track Education

Why join us?

· Work with small class sizes and high staff-to-student ratios, so you can really get to know your pupils

· Have the freedom to adapt your teaching to meet individual needs and help young people rediscover their confidence and enjoyment of learning

· Be part of a nationwide group of schools led by innovative and supportive professionals

· Work in a setting that combines a holistic approach to learning with a strong focus on emotional and social development

· Make a lasting difference to young people who may have struggled to thrive in traditional educational settings

· Join a welcoming, committed and supportive team
