Position: Sous Chef
Location: The Weald of Kent Golf Course & Hotel, near Headcorn (6 miles south of Maidstone)
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum plus bonuses

About Us

The Weald of Kent Golf Course & Hotel is a busy and well-established golf, hotel, wedding and events venue. We pride ourselves on providing quality food, friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere for our guests.

With a thriving restaurant, hotel breakfasts and a wide variety of weddings, functions and private events throughout the year, we are looking for an experienced and motivated Sous Chef to join our professional kitchen team.

Role Overview

As Sous Chef, you will support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen. You will help lead and motivate the kitchen team, maintain consistently high food standards and ensure that all services operate smoothly and efficiently.

The role offers plenty of variety, covering breakfast, lunch, evening dining, Sunday carveries, weddings and private functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Chef with the effective day-to-day management of the kitchen
  • Lead the kitchen team and manage service in the Head Chef’s absence
  • Prepare and cook high-quality dishes using fresh ingredients
  • Help maintain consistent standards across restaurant, hotel and function catering
  • Assist with menu planning, stock control, ordering and reducing food waste
  • Support the training, development and supervision of junior kitchen team members
  • Ensure food hygiene, health and safety, and allergen procedures are followed
  • Work closely with the front-of-house and events teams
  • Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen environment

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or experienced Chef de Partie ready to progress
  • Experience within a busy restaurant, hotel or events kitchen
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
  • A passion for preparing and serving quality food
  • The ability to remain calm and organised during busy services
  • A good understanding of food hygiene, allergens and kitchen safety
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and evenings
  • Access to your own transport is essential due to our rural location

Working Hours

  • Full-time position with straight 8-hour shifts
  • Example shifts include 6:30am–2:30pm, 8:00am–4:00pm and 1:00pm–9:00pm
  • Weekend work is required on a rotational basis
  • No split shifts
