Online Sales Advisor – Sample Sales

Job Description:

Builder Depot is one of the leading Independent Builders Merchants in the UK. Our growing online team (based at the largest branch in New Southgate) is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service, smooth ordering process, and all the support you need to complete your building project.

A key driver of this growth is samples of our fantastic range of building products which play a critical role in converting customer interest into full project orders. We offer a wide range of product samples including paint, flooring, decking, skirting, architraves, benchtops and more — with the clear objective of turning every sample request into a larger sale.

This is a highly sales-driven, phone-based role, where success is measured by your ability to proactively engage customers, build relationships, and convert warm leads into revenue. You will take ownership of sample enquiries and drive them through to full order completion, working closely with stakeholders across the business to maximize every opportunity.

We are looking for someone who is motivated by targets, confident on the phone, and thrives on converting leads into sales while maintaining an excellent customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales: Take full ownership of inbound and outbound sample leads and proactively convert them into full-value orders. The approach is to follow up on all sample requests, ensuring no opportunity is missed, including identifying upselling and cross-selling opportunities across the full Builder Depot range. Confidently guide customers through their project needs.
  • Phone based sales and support to customers who have ordered a sample. Ensuring we are following up consistently to maximise conversion rates.
  • Labeling and Dispatch Improvement: Working to improve our samples operational processes and offer, including packaging and dispatching.
  • Customer Interactions: Handling sample order-related queries through Zendesk and CRM.
  • Manual Handling: Carrying out daily manual handling tasks, including lifting up to 30kg.
  • Replenishing Stock: Ensuring samples stock levels are maintained in the department.
  • Processing Sample Requests: Organizing and preparing the sample orders for shipment, ensuring they are dispatched in a timely manner.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Sales Experience: Previous experience in a sales environment is an advantage, particularly in the same or similar industry (Construction products, flooring, carpeting etc).
  • Great Customer Service: We approach sales in a non-pushy friendly way, aiming to help the customer with their project and have them choose Builder Depot as their preferred supplier.
  • Organizational Skills: You should be able to prioritize tasks effectively, ensuring deadlines are met even under pressure.
  • Attention to detail: Attention to detail is critical to ensure the order is handled correctly.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary for internal collaboration and dealing with customer inquiries.
  • IT Literacy: Comfort using computers and willingness to learn warehouse management systems.
  • Physical Capability: Capable of handling manual tasks and lifting up to 30kg safely.

Team Culture:
The team is small, collaborative, and values honesty, compassion, and communication. The company is seeking a candidate who aligns with these values and enjoys working in a team-oriented environment.

Compensation:

  • Salary: £31,000 per year
  • Hours: 42.5 hours per week,
  • Working Schedule:
  • We require someone that is available Tuesday to Saturday. Shift pattern is:
  • Tuesday – Friday 9:00-18:00
  • Saturdays 7:00-16:00

* Some shifts may require team members to work later to align with when customers are likely to answer their phone.
