Full job description

We are looking for an experienced Funeral Director to join our dedicated team at our Harlow branch. This is a rewarding role for an experienced professional who takes pride in delivering the highest standard of care for the deceased and their families.

About the Role

  • Arrange and conduct funerals, acting as the main point of contact for bereaved families from first call through to the day of the funeral
  • Meet with families to take funeral arrangements, offering guidance on service options, coffins, vehicles, and personalisation with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Liaise with third parties including clergy, celebrants, crematoria, cemeteries, doctors, coroners, florists, and our internal service sheet department to coordinate all elements of the service
  • Complete and manage all documentation, including cremation forms, burial paperwork, and registration requirements
  • Oversee the care and preparation of the deceased, always ensuring the highest standards of dignity
  • Conduct funerals on the day: leading the cortège, directing bearers, managing timings, and ensuring the service runs flawlessly
  • Provide accurate estimates and manage funeral accounts in line with company pricing and FCA/CMA transparency requirements
  • Support families with aftercare, including memorial masonry, ashes options, and pre-paid funeral plan enquiries
  • Help to maintain premises, vehicles, and equipment to the highest standard of presentation
  • Uphold company values and industry standards (e.g. NAFD and SAIF codes of practice) in all client interactions

What We Need From You

Essential

  • Previous experience within the funeral profession
  • The ability to support bereaved families with empathy, tact, and discretion· Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, able to manage multiple funerals and deadlines simultaneously
  • Sound judgement in emotionally sensitive situations
  • Immaculate personal presentation and a professional manner
  • Full UK driving licence (essential for driving)Desirable
  • Diploma in Funeral Directing (Dip FD)
  • Experience conducting funerals and leading a funeral team on the day
