Full job description

SHIFT LEADER – TAXI OFFICE

Permanent | 25–35 hours per week | Evenings & Weekends | Immediate Start Available

We are looking for a reliable, motivated and genuinely hardworking Shift Leader to join our busy 24/7 taxi office.

This is not a job for someone looking to simply clock in, do the minimum and go home. We want someone who takes pride in their work, uses their initiative and wants to become a valued member of the team.

You will often be responsible for running the office on your own for extended periods, so you must be confident making decisions, dealing with problems and keeping things running smoothly without constant supervision.

THE ROLE

This is a permanent position of approximately 25–35 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours when cover is required.

The role is primarily evening and weekend based, with most shifts starting around 2pm/3pm.

As we operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, complete flexibility is essential. You will be required to:

  • Work a minimum of 3–4 shifts per week
  • Work evenings and weekends
  • Cover daytime shifts when required
  • Cover overnight shifts, particularly when other members of staff are on holiday or unavailable
  • Work alone for periods of time
  • Be flexible when additional cover is needed

Please do not apply if you are unable to work evenings, weekends or occasional overnight shifts.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

You’ll play an important role in keeping our taxi office running efficiently and providing a high level of service to both customers and drivers.

Your duties will include:

  • Taking telephone calls from customers and taxi drivers
  • Taking immediate and advanced bookings, including out-of-town journeys
  • Entering and updating bookings accurately on our computer systems
  • Taking payments
  • Dealing with customer enquiries and complaints
  • Resolving problems calmly and professionally
  • Communicating with drivers throughout the shift
  • Monitoring the office and taking responsibility for keeping things running smoothly
  • General office and administrative duties
  • Working independently and using your own initiative

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Reliable and punctual
  • Hardworking and motivated
  • Positive and enthusiastic about their work
  • Confident working independently
  • Able to remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Comfortable dealing with difficult customers and situations
  • Able to think on their feet and use their initiative
  • Fast and accurate when working
  • Friendly, polite and confident on the telephone
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • A quick learner who is willing to take responsibility
  • Comfortable using computers and typing quickly
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent computer and keyboard skills
  • Fast and accurate typing
  • Excellent telephone manner and clear telephone voice
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good timekeeping and attendance
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work alone for extended periods
  • Good knowledge of Blackpool and the Fylde Coast
  • Full flexibility to work evenings, weekends and occasional overnight shifts

Previous experience in a shift leader, supervisory, customer service, call centre, taxi office or similar role would be an advantage, but isn’t essential for the right person.

WHAT WE EXPECT

We take reliability and attitude seriously.

You don’t need to know everything on day one — we can teach you the job. What we can’t teach is reliability, work ethic, initiative and a willingness to do a good job.

We are looking for someone who wants to learn, improve and progress, rather than someone who is simply looking for a few hours each week.

National Minimum Wage applies. Bonuses are available for working unsociable hours.

APPLYING

ALL screening questions must be answered. Applications without completed screening questions will not be considered.

We will contact shortlisted applicants by telephone to arrange an interview, so please make sure your contact number is correct and that you are available to answer your phone.

Immediate start available for the right candidate.

Pay: £12.71-£15.50 per hour

Expected hours: 25.0 – 35.0 per week

Benefits:

  • Company events
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking

Application question(s):

  • This is not a Monday–Friday 9–5 position. Please confirm that you understand the role is primarily evenings and weekends, with occasional overnight cover required.
  • This role involves working alone for extended periods. How would you feel about being solely responsible for running the office during a shift?
  • Tell us about a time you have had to deal with a difficult customer or stressful situation. What did you do?
  • Why are you interested in this particular role?
  • What does having a good work ethic mean to you?
