Job Overview

GP Surgery Administrator / Receptionist at Saltdean Medical Practice

Hours

07.45-18.00 - 4 days per week.

About the Role

We are looking for a friendly, organised, and reliable Administrator/Receptionist to join our busy GP surgery team. This is a patient-facing role that combines front desk reception duties with administrative responsibilities, helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for our patients, providing a welcoming and professional service both in person and over the telephone. As this role is predominantly based on reception and telephone work, excellent communication skills, a calm approach, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and professionally.
  • Assist patients with booking, changing, and cancelling appointments.
  • Welcome patients at the reception desk and provide excellent customer service.
  • Respond to patient enquiries and direct them to the appropriate clinician or service.
  • Liaise with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support the efficient running of the practice.
  • Undertake general administrative duties as required.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with GDPR and NHS policies.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive, and professional team environment.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A professional, friendly, and compassionate manner.
  • Strong organisational skills with good attention to detail.
  • Confidence using computers and learning new systems.
  • The ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Previous reception, customer service, or administrative experience (experience within a GP surgery or healthcare setting is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided).
