Our contemporary campus is set within the iconic Velodrome, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, surrounded by lush and relaxing gardens.

Purpose of this Role

The Student Success Tutor plays a central role in supporting the academic development, engagement and progression of students across esports, gaming and digital‑creative disciplines. This proactive and student‑centred role combines academic tutoring, early intervention and personalised support to ensure every learner can achieve their full potential. The postholder contributes to an inclusive, supportive and industry‑aligned learning environment that prepares students for success in the global esports and gaming ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Support & Student Success

  • Deliver tailored 1:1 and group academic support to help students understand course content and develop strong study, research and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Support students in setting SMART academic and career goals, with regular progress reviews and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of student interactions, progress plans and outcomes.

Engagement Monitoring & Early Intervention

  • Monitor student engagement and performance using data sources such as attendance, assessment outcomes and VLE/Teams activity.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to students identified as at risk, supporting early intervention and retention strategies.
  • Implement targeted support plans to improve student engagement, progression and achievement.
  • Collaborate with Student Services and wellbeing teams to ensure students are connected with appropriate support, including mental health, pastoral, employability and industry engagement services.

Culture, Inclusion & Learning Environment

  • Promote an inclusive, supportive and culturally aware learning environment that reflects the diversity of the global gaming community.
  • Encourage professional behaviours aligned with esports and gaming industries, including teamwork, communication and digital professionalism.
  • Contribute to initiatives that strengthen student belonging, engagement and community across UCES.

Collaboration & Institutional Contribution

  • Work closely with academic teams to ensure a joined‑up approach to teaching, learning and student support.
  • Contribute to institutional reporting, student success strategies and quality assurance processes.
  • Participate in internal and external events, including open days, induction activities and student engagement initiatives.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Esports, Games Design, Business, Digital Media, Computing or similar).
  • Working towards or holding a recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving ability with a proactive, student‑focused approach.
  • Experience using virtual learning environments (VLEs), Microsoft Teams and student support systems.
  • Cultural awareness and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Interest in or understanding of business, esports, gaming culture or digital industries.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject area.
  • Experience supporting international and diverse student cohorts.
  • Knowledge of the esports and gaming industry landscape, including career pathways and trends.

Experience

  • Experience teaching or supporting students in Further or Higher Education.
  • Experience working with widening participation students or underrepresented groups.
  • Demonstrable commitment to student success, retention and progression.
  • Familiarity with learning technologies and student engagement tools.
