Garden Centre Assistant Manager

Due to increased sales and continued growth, Caulders Garden Centre in Linlithgow are looking for a full time Assistant Manager to join the team, working 5 days per week, and as with all retail roles, this will include some weekend working. A knowledge of horticulture and previous retail experience are essential

Key responsibilities (alongside General manger)

  • Oversee daily garden centre operations, ensuring smooth, efficient service
  • Manage inventory: order, receive, and restock plants, sundries and gardening supplies
  • Maintain a clean, safe, well-organised and visually appealing retail environment
  • Develop and implement sales and customer-satisfaction initiatives
  • Supervise and support assistants and managers to ensure efficient, focused work
  • Identify team strengths and development needs; deliver/co-ordinate training and motivation to meet performance standards
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations and maintain a safe environment for staff, concessionaires, customers and visitors

Skills & experience

  • Passion for gardening and plant knowledge
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail (inventory management, stock control)
  • Excellent spoken and written English; strong customer-service focus
  • Proficient with cash handling and point-of-sale procedures
  • Able to work on own initiative and prioritise key tasks under pressure
  • Consistent, methodical, and reliable approach to work
  • Experience managing retail or garden centre teams is desirable
