Full job description

Are you passionate about gardening, people and plants?

Green Synergy is looking for Freelance Projects Assistants to support our programme of project delivery across our mental health and wellbeing projects through community gardening and growing.

The projects assistant will co-deliver and support current Green Synergy adult projects and Green Synergy garden events when needed. You will work with the Project and Delivery Manager and the Project Officers to empower a wide range of volunteers and beneficiaries into exploring therapeutic horticulture and other creative nature-connection activities. You will work to support participants and beneficiaries and assist with the planning and preparation as well as the delivery and co-delivery of sessions.

This includes prepping sessions in advance, sourcing materials, setting up equipment, preparing refreshments, supporting participants, inducting new participants providing mentoring and 1-2-1 support, assisting with events, opening and closing the site and helping to maintain the garden alongside volunteers and beneficiaries.

You will be an enthusiastic, friendly and adaptable person with some experience of gardening or nature-based activities -though you don’t have to be an expert!

This is a freelance position with part time hours to be confirmed and worked over Monday-Thursday on project delivery days. Hours worked will normally take place between 10am and 3.30pm with times and dates to be confirmed with Projects and Delivery Manager.

As the role includes supporting participants with complex physical and mental health needs you will be able to communicate sensitively and compassionately with a wide range of people. The role demands an understanding of Mental Health Awareness, active listening skills and person centred support as you will often be working alongside vulnerable adults with complex mental health needs.

A full driving license and own transport is desirable for off-site sessions.
