Growth is a major focus for the business, but just as importantly, they want to achieve that without losing the identity, standards and personal feel that have made the garden centre successful.

  • Play a key role in an ambitious period of growth and development
  • Work closely with the owners and have real influence over how the business develops
  • Join a business that wants to grow while maintaining its values, identity and personal approach

  • Be part of a friendly, supportive team in a fantastic garden retail environment

About the Business

This is a high-quality, independent garden centre that prides itself on offering excellent products, strong presentation and a level of personal service that customers value.

Quality really matters here, whether that is the products on offer, the appearance of the centre, the customer experience or the way the team operates.

With ambitious plans for the future, the owners are looking for a General Manager who can help grow the business while protecting what already makes it special.

You'll work closely with the owners, have real influence over the direction of the garden centre and be encouraged to bring ideas that can improve performance, develop the customer offer and support long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the garden centre, ensuring everything operates smoothly and efficiently
  • Lead, motivate and develop the team, creating a positive and high-performing working environment
  • Maintain excellent standards of customer service and ensure the customer experience reflects the quality of the business
  • Take ownership of sales performance and identify opportunities for sustainable growth
  • Work closely with the owners on commercial ideas, promotions, events and future development
  • Maintain high standards of presentation across the garden centre, with a strong focus on detail and quality
  • Monitor performance, sales and key figures, providing regular updates to the owners
  • Support the growth of the business while ensuring its independent, family-run identity is maintained
  • Be visible and hands-on across the garden centre, supporting the team wherever needed

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous management experience within a garden centre environment is preferred but not essential
  • A strong, confident leader who enjoys developing and motivating people
  • Commercially aware, with a good understanding of sales, margins and performance
  • Someone who understands the importance of quality, presentation and customer experience
  • Hands-on and comfortable being involved in the day-to-day running of the business
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well organised and able to manage multiple priorities in a busy retail environment
  • Someone who brings enthusiasm and ideas and wants to help grow a business without losing what makes it unique
