Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Self Employed Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing outdoor environments, ensuring they are safe, attractive, and well-kept. This position offers flexibility for self-employed professionals who are passionate about groundskeeping, gardening, and landscape maintenance. Your expertise will help create beautiful, functional outdoor spaces that meet client expectations and uphold high standards of horticultural care.

Duties

  • Perform landscape maintenance tasks including mowing, pruning, edging, and planting to keep outdoor areas vibrant and healthy
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently for various groundskeeping activities
  • Operate machinery such as excavators and irrigation systems to support construction and landscaping projects
  • Conduct routine inspections of grounds to identify issues requiring repair or maintenance
  • Carry out general groundskeeping duties including litter removal, hedge trimming, and lawn mowing
  • Support construction-related tasks by assisting with site preparation, fencing, or minor landscaping projects as and when needed
  • We will also be providing a salt spreading service for this year to our clients where you as an operative could sign up for some more hours to earn some extra money throughout the winter season

Skills

  • Proven experience in landscape maintenance, gardening, or horticulture with a strong understanding of plant care and ground management
  • Mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot and maintain equipment such as power tools and small machinery
  • Proficiency with hand tools including shears, spades, rakes, and shovels for precise groundskeeping work
  • Familiarity with operating large machinery e.g push mowers, ride on mowers, cultivators, waker plates etc
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance on groundskeeping equipment to ensure safety and functionality
