Full job description

To support adults to work across all activities of the Land-Based Enterprises, undertaking Horticultural and garden maintenance tasks whilst promoting community engagement and life skills.

On a day to day basis this will involve supporting people with learning disabilities to carry out practical horticultural activities, such as growing plants from seed, propagating plants, pruning , feeding and watering and also undertaking some basic DIY duties (e.g. repairing fences, hard landscaping). As well as these practical elements, there is an element of care to the role as you will be supporting people with differing levels of ability and communication skills. This means responsibility for documentation to record all activity as required.

Attendees at Day Opportunities may wish to develop their vocational skills and there is an expectation that you will support positive learning outcomes at all times.

The Ideal candidate would:

  • Be able to communicate clearly and break down tasks so that every member of the team can participate and become actively involved in activities.
  • Be responsible for the use and care of general garden tools, with due regard to Health and Safety requirements.
  • Develop positive relationships with services users, based on mutual trust, confidence and understanding.
  • Have experience of working with or supporting people, especially those with learning disabilities, either from family, employment or voluntary work
  • Have previous experience of working in a gardening / horticultural role or significant experience of managing a domestic garden / allotment
