Full job description

Gardener Team Leader - an exciting opportunity for you to join our family run team maintaining private gardens that have largely been created by our landscaping teams.

We would like to welcome an enthusiastic, polite, hard working individual to our team, with ideally 2 years experience in a similar position and/or relevant horticultural qualifications. This is a full time roll, however part time is negotiable.

You will be responsible for a small gardening team with the support and assistance of our management team and garden designer's. You will be lone lone working at times and on our smaller gardens. You must have good communication skills with both team members and clients.

The gardens would predominantly be in St Albans, Harpenden, Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead. Some gardens may be further away but we try to keep within 40 mins of Hemel Hempstead.

Applicants should live locally to Hemel Hempstead and have a full clean driving license. A company vehicle will be supplied for getting to and from site.

Day to day tasks that we would need you to carry out:

  • Maintaining flower beds, digging over and weeding of borders.
  • Planting and mulching
  • Cutting/edging lawns and general lawn management
  • Operating relevant horticultural equipment - hedge cutters, mower's, strimmer's
  • Planting
  • Identifying/controlling plant health (i.e. pest/diseases)
  • General house keeping duties (sweeping paths clearing leaves and debris)
  • Pruning of plants and shrubs
  • Training plants and tying into training wires/pergola's etc.
  • Managing tap timer irrigation systems.
  • On occasions with our support we may need you to liaise with outside contractors on site. Tree surgeons, irrigation specialists etc.

Key tasks in the role:

  • Assist with daily time schedules to agree and meet standard times for each task and the overall management of the gardens.
  • Liaise with Garden designers (who have designed the gardens you are responsible to maintain), clients and our project Manager.
  • Organisation of the van/tools to make sure you have the required equipment for each day.
  • Communicate with the client as required in a professional and friendly manner
  • Use and take care of the company’s assets (uniforms, tools and equipment)
  • Adhere to procedures and represent the Company’s best interests at all times.

The candidate will need to be able to work in all weathers and will be responsible for organising the team on a daily basis.
