Job Summary:

Jess Care is on the lookout for a Grounds & Maintenance person to work 25 hours a week, between Monday- Friday. Please note this role will cover our homes in Boxford, Suffolk and Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.

As a Grounds & Maintenance Assistant in our residential children’s homes you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the buildings and outdoor spaces (with equal emphasis on buildings, fixtures, fittings and equipment and grounds and gardens depending on season) ensuring they are attractive, safe and enjoyable for our children and young people.

Your responsibilities will include performing routine maintenance tasks, addressing maintenance requests, and assisting in various projects to create a safe, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing living environment.

Due to the nature of our business all potential candidates will be interviewed and if successful, full safer recruitment checks including references and a DBS will be undertaken before employment commences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works to a maintenance schedule to ensure home structures, fixtures, fittings and equipment are inspected and properly maintained.
  • Attends, diagnoses, triages issues and decides on best course of action – including liaison with colleagues , outside contractors, escalating to management team and undertaking the work – e.g. door repairs, leaks, electricity outage, plumbing.
  • Address and resolve maintenance requests promptly and efficiently.
  • Works with Management team to plan landscaping and deliver schedule, prioritising work accordingly including upkeep of all grounds, grassed areas, beds, boundary fences, paths and paved areas.
  • Mows lawns, trims hedges, prunes trees and maintains flower beds to ensure a well-kept appearance
  • Ensure outdoor furniture and amenities are clean and in good condition.
  • Communicate effectively with staff regarding maintenance schedules, disruptions, and planned activities.
  • Maintains paths and walkways and other hardscaped areas to ensure they are safe and free from hazards, as far as is practicable
  • Follows all applicable health and safety guidelines, including COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) guidelines.

What we are looking for?

  • Previous experience in maintenance/ gardening or a related field is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and challenges.
