Job Title: Horticulture Tutor
Location: 3 Dimensions School, Chard, Somerset, TA20 3AJ
Hours: 40 hours per week | Monday – Friday | 8.30am - 4.30pm
Salary: £37,800 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: January 2027

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and inspiring Horticulture Tutor to deliver engaging, practical learning experiences for secondary and post-16 students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This is an exciting opportunity to use horticulture as a powerful tool to develop confidence, independence, employability skills and wellbeing, while making a genuine difference to the lives of young people.
Working within a supportive multidisciplinary team, you'll create meaningful learning opportunities that help students achieve their individual goals and prepare for adulthood.
What will you be doing
- Deliver engaging and accessible horticulture lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
- Deliver and assess accredited qualifications such as ASDAN, AQA Unit Awards, NCFE, City & Guilds or equivalent.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate assessment records.
- Contribute to EHCP outcomes and Preparation for Adulthood targets.
- Develop and maintain horticulture learning areas and growing spaces.
- Promote safe working practices and undertake risk assessments.
- Build positive relationships with students using trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming approaches.
- Support wider school activities, community projects and work-related learning opportunities.
What you will bring
Essential
- A qualification in Horticulture, Land-Based Studies or a related subject.
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent.
- Experience within horticulture, gardening or a land-based environment.
- Experience teaching, training or supporting young people.
- Knowledge of vocational qualifications and assessment processes.
- Understanding of health and safety within horticultural settings.
- An awareness of SEND and inclusive learning practices.
- Driving licence is required
Desirable
- Level 3 or higher qualification in Horticulture.
- Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent).
- Experience working within a SEND or specialist educational setting.
- Knowledge of autism, ADHD, PDA, SEMH and trauma-informed practice.
- Experience delivering ASDAN, AQA Unit Awards, NCFE or City & Guilds qualifications.
- Experience supporting employability and Preparation for Adulthood pathways.
