About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and skilled gardener to join a small, dedicated team caring for the extensive gardens of an exclusive private members club in Ottershaw, Surrey.

The successful candidate will have a strong practical horticultural background and take pride in maintaining gardens to a high standard. The role will involve working across both formal and informal garden areas, with responsibility for a wide range of horticultural tasks throughout the seasons.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining formal and informal gardens to a high standard
  • Creating and maintaining seasonal bedding displays
  • Maintaining shrub and herbaceous borders
  • Pruning and training shrubs
  • General topiary and hedge cutting
  • Lawn mowing and general grass maintenance
  • Using a range of professional gardening machinery and equipment
  • Carrying out general garden maintenance and horticultural tasks
  • Working as part of a small, friendly and professional gardening team
  • Maintaining high standards of presentation throughout the gardens
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a professional gardener
  • Strong practical, hands-on horticultural skills
  • Good knowledge of general garden maintenance
  • Experience using lawnmowers and general gardening machinery
  • Experience of pruning, shrub training, hedge cutting and topiary
  • A keen eye for detail and pride in maintaining high standards
  • Reliable, hardworking and able to work effectively as part of a small team
  • Physically fit and capable of carrying out the duties required
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

  • Kitchen gardening / productive gardening experience
  • Experience driving a tractor
  • Forklift or telehandler licence
  • PA1 / PA6 spraying certificates
  • Knowlede of irrigation systems

Training can be provided for suitable candidates where required.
