Chaucer Barn, a beautiful wedding venue in Gresham, is looking for a Freelance Gardener with extensive knowledge of flowers to help maintain our stunning grounds. This role is perfect for someone who has a deep understanding of floral varieties, planting, and garden maintenance, particularly in creating and caring for mixed borders and flower beds.

As the grounds are an integral part of our weddings and events, we need someone who can ensure the gardens are vibrant, healthy, and always looking their best.

Key Responsibilities:

• Planting, maintaining, and caring for a variety of flowers, perennials, and shrubs within mixed borders
• Regular weeding, pruning, and deadheading to ensure the gardens are always in top condition
• Expertise in selecting and arranging seasonal flowers to maintain visual appeal year-round
• Ensuring gardens are kept tidy and ready for events, with a particular focus on floral arrangements and aesthetics
• Soil preparation and feeding of flowers to ensure they thrive and remain healthy
• Identifying and resolving any pest or disease issues affecting flowers and plants
• Advising on the best planting techniques, flower combinations, and seasonal rotations

Skills and Experience:

• Strong knowledge of a wide range of flowers, including perennials, annuals, and seasonal blooms
• Proven experience in planting and maintaining flower beds and mixed borders
• In-depth understanding of flower care, including pruning, deadheading, and pest management
• Ability to select flowers that complement the season and the venue’s aesthetic
• Familiarity with soil types and fertilization methods to support flower growth
• Ability to create aesthetically pleasing floral arrangements for garden beds and borders
• Experience working in a similar setting, ideally a wedding venue or garden that requires high attention to detail

Desirable:

• Horticulture qualifications or equivalent practical experience
• A creative eye for designing garden spaces that enhance the venue’s atmosphere
• Previous experience working on garden spaces for special events or weddings
• Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently in preparation for events

Hours: Flexible (Work based on the needs of the venue and upcoming events)

Location: Chaucer Barn, Gresham NR11 8AD

Payment: Competitive, based on experience and scope of work
